Chin up Linus. Where I live, rain that amounts to anything is cause for rejoicing! It was raining this morning for almost half an hour. The air is clean and everything smells wonderful. If a rainy day is your biggest problem, think of all the good stuff you have.

I’m glad that Sparky lives on through his strips.

Wormwood is a small bush. It can be made into an alcoholic beverage called Absinthe. Absinthe is different than most alcoholic beverages because it also contains a natural narcotic, so you are essentially taking a narcotic and alcohol at the same time. Both are depressants, so people who do this end up in a depressed, trance-like state. It is also very addictive. It is illegal in the US, and many other countries.

Why is Lucy concerned? She’s a constant significant contributor to his depression.

How doth the little crocodileImprove his shining tailAnd pour the waters of the NileOn every golden scale! How cheerfully he seems to grinHow neatly spreads his clawsAnd welcomes little fishes inWith gently smiling jaws!

Linus has been readiing his bible again.

From Revelation 8:11 “the name of the star is called Wormwood: and the third part of the waters became wormwood; and many men died of the waters, because they were made bitter.”

Schulz’s depression transferred to Linus. After reading these strips and the recent biography of Schulz, I tend to think he should have always been in analysis, or on anti-depressants. It seems the death of his mother, when Schulz was off at WWII, caused a near-permanent depressive state in Schulz.
