The NFL claims it reviews all referee’s performance the day after the games. What really happens is that sub-par refs don’t get rehired the next season & the average & the slightly below par ones don’t get the post season jobs.
It is always easier to referee a game from the comfort of your bar stool, recliner, or broadcast booth.Think you can do better ? Try it – even on a non-professional youth level. You’ll instantly realize isn’t as easy as you think. The overwhelming majority of fans, players or coaches don’t know or understand fully all the rules and regulation of their sport. A referee is trained to know, understand, evaluate and interpret those rules to insure the flow of the game, the safety of the players and the enjoyment of the spectators.
Maybe the NFL should stop flying guys in from their job at the parts store in Akron on Saturday, putting them in striped shirts on Sunday and expecting them to officiate games at the highest level before shipping them back home in time for Monday. That a cash cow like this league still employs part-time refs is ridiculous. At least make the damned crew chiefs full time.

Why not the honor system? It works in golf. (well, true, golfers don’t have TBI/concussion syndrome usually).

Of course they’re grown-ups. Look at how many of them are in adult prisons.

I’m expecting an arc about blindsiding the refs when the coaches say “Simon Says”………
