Rose is Rose by Don Wimmer and Pat Brady for November 01, 2015
Transcript:
Rose: Every day I'm reminded of how much you've taught me, mom! The quirky way I tie my shoes...how I balance a checkbook...even my technique for repotting plants! I remember you teaching me how to bake...I'd end up getting flour all over the both of us! Meemaw: Ha! Rose: And my early attempts at knitting! We'd laugh...and you'd talk me through each stitch! Your patient tutelage and my eagerness to learn made each life lesson fun! Meemaw: Well... I'm not sure the driving lessons were that much fun. Rose: I just can't do it! Meemaw: Relax, Rose...no one is going to make you parallel park.

No problem Rose — just keep driving around the block until 4 cars pull out all in a row.

I can do it in two, if they are full size. Parallel parking is the definition of hit or miss.

Rose should have called on Vickie for the driving lessons.

I was the best in my driver’s ed class in parallel parking. I can still do it well. I remember a parking lot attendant looking shocked when he saw me parallel park our huge Chevy Tahoe…right behind HIS truck!

Some of the newer cars do it for you all by themselves.

Back in 1963 when I got my license, parallel parking was the final step of the driving test, so yeah – there was someone who would make you do it.

it was the final step of the test in ‘84, failed the 1st 2 times. passed the third when i got a tester who talked me through it. i’ve since mastered it in any case. also, maybe rose developed vicki after learning to drive?

I learned parallel parking to placate the driving tester – about 30 years ago, and I don’t think I have parallel parked since.

My father took me in to Mid Manhattan and I learned to drive with the taxi’s and was an awesome parallel parker. You had to be quick as spots were at a premium.

I can handle parallel parking and, thanks to my dad, backing up using side mirrors only. Trying to back a trailer was and still is my nemesis.
