Maybe the Dittos weren’t covering Clive because they have a particular affinity for Wally and thought he really didn’t want to tote Clive? Or maybe the Dittos hated Clive because he had a Tory name and the Dittos are Whigs? I still wonder about the Leaning Tower. Was that Flask’s original rocket? Or maybe a different, crashed rocket loaded with MUTTs?
Or… maybe the MUTTs are a Ditto illusion to test the Merry Band of Mutants? So many questions. The TopWebComics voting links are in my profile. Thanks, JusSayin
Do Scouts have their own brains? Or does the brain in the PT control the PT and the Scouts? If PT brains can control Scouts from a distance, maybe Clive, in his powersave mode can continue to control dependent Scouts and MUTTs. And if these MUTTs lost their controllers, they may have glommed onto Clive’s feeble black-box type Transporter. Petey was able to communicate with Mutants as he lay dying. Perhaps in a powersave mode, all he can do is communicate in machine-language. We don’t really know if there might be a decent battery in the casserole dish, er, brain platter.
PTs most likely control the air scouts thru some remote control link built into the vehicle. Think of the brain as a CPU. Without power and stripped of it’s peripherals, it’s basically an expensive doorstop. No offense, Clive. ;-)
My experience — from Al and Gustine’s quest and the Countdown story arc — is that the PTs control their own air scouts. So the air scouts that were looking for Clive were either attached to PTs (manned or unmanned) or may be controlled by brains that were designed for PT use but were repurposed. An interesting possibility is that the TS may have used mutts, unmanned PTs and other devices as parts of a space exploration program in search of a new home. The leaning tower might be an exploration rocket that crashed into Earth. The Mutts and PT brains may not be aware that they are not on a new world.
Since the dittos are hiding both Chik and Kirbee, the mutts can’t see either of them. the dittos may be are hiding Clive too.So if the dittos are hiding Clive, one of them may have bumped him and is confused about what it is. could be no signal from him at all.The dittos are doing an exellent job of hiding Chik and Kirbee too. The ditto probably didn’t see Chik at all, even though it’s eyes were looking (at, through) him. I don’t think they are as smart as we may have given them credit for.Holly and Wally have made it out with getting 2 good companions. Both Chik and Kirbee have shown fantastic bravery in the last few days/minutes.Chik being just a kid is quite smart, but of course parrots are extremely smart. And Kirbee has sure proven her value and Holly will probably like her a good bit more if she brings Chik And Clive back safely. But then we don’t know who if anyone these mutts belong to.And the leaning thingy in the distance has what looks like an enlargement at the top. So I’ve been trying to think of things that are shaped like that. And the idea of aa flashligh/torch, is the best fit.Or maybe a grain silo. May or may not be occupied/watched.
It also looks like, if the mutts can see Clive, they think he may be moving under his own power. They don’t seem to be looking At him once he moved from that spot. But I could be completely wrong.
From an earlier panel only the provisions and Clive were visible. One of the mutts was standing on them. The mutts will soon figure out……plastic brains don’t move on their own.Kind of hard to figure a surprise look on their faces.
Maybe, just maybe, somewhere down the line Clive will play a hugely important part in their survival and Holly will be justified in not leaving him behind, in spite of great personal risk to them all. There has to be a reason for the story’s insistence on toting him all this way, and I, for one, don’t think it’s just Holly’s stubbornness.
I’m starting to suspect these Mutts are no longer under topsider control. Not rogue mind you, just not under any outside control.Perhaps the destination in the distance is a ruined Topsider base.
No, it WAS a human being it is now a disembodied brain that is very content with it’s purpose, anyone how reads this story from the start knows that the brains are very happy doing their tasks.
Even among PT drivers, Clive was somewhat unusual. While Petey and his love did not know (at first) that they were mutant brains, stolen and repurposed, Clive knew all that when Holly had her first chat with him and he told her that he’d rather be a PT. Thus, actually letting him go back to the TS might be doing him a kindness.

Zombie Mutts just want to eat your plasticized brain. They’re not unreasonable. It’s not like they want to eat your eyes.

Whatever’s going on, they’re not paying attention to Kirbee and Chick.

Clive is a radio red dot. The MUTTs are trying to find the source, but they’re chasing the projection.
