How could anyone not love a cat? You just have to know better than to try to have nice furniture.

I can live with it. I am a dog lover. Cats serve no useful purpose, unless you like playing servant to them.

I’m with you on this one, Earl.

I had one cat that acted like a dog. Now we have one that acts like it was dropped on it’s head.

I had one cat. Once. Never again. It attacked everyone who entered my house including me. (and I had it neutered when it was young). Never saw such a mean animal in my life. When I moved from the city to the suburbs, it escaped one day and came back with one ear half missing and looking proud as punch. Another time it escaped and came back smelling of skunk. I have a dog now - quiet, friendly and obedient!

You can KEEP your dogs. I’m laughing at you when you have to take it out in the rain and snow for his morning walk. Most of them are yappy leg -riders always in need of a bath.

I’ll keep my cat thank you!

I lost the last of the three cats I had last year. She was 18 and the coolest cat I’d ever known. I could pick her up and throw her over my shoulder and just walk around that way. She loved it. She also loved taking rides in the car with my hubby and I to get a milkshake in town………………..I really miss her

They each have their stong suits. I know the main argument against cats is that we are their servants, but that’s true for dogs also. I’ve never seen a dog feed himself or clean up. The only reason I don’t have a dog is because they require so much more maintenance than a cat, plus I like the space that a cat gives me. My cats give me plenty of attention (and not only when they want food). I’ve taught my cats to come when I whistle, beg (not really proud of that one though), and they put my kids to bed every night. Some days I would like a dog, but then I think of the walking and maintenance and training, and decide maybe later.

If you have a pet and they are part of your family and provide comfort and companionship, it matters little what species it is.

Sorry about your cat Nelly55. I have had at least one and usually two cats for years now. I had a little black and white that was about 18 years old too. He was cool. Liked to play a little bit right up to his last day.He would actually play fetch witha little plastic spider or whatever it was supposed to be. I would throw it down the hall and he would go leaping after it and bring it back to me and we would do that until I got tired of the game. And very affectionate. Used to follow me from room to room. These pets , whatever we choose to have, become just like our kids after that many years. That was a bad day for me when he passed. I hope you did, or will, get another cat.

What do you men no useful purpose . Ha! I have 4 and they keep my yard free of moles and vermon. They are helpful in lowering your B/P by stoking them. They are much more indenpendent than a dog could ever be.

Outdoor cats that kill ‘vermon’ will likely bring disease inside for you. Keep cats indoors, safe from cars, nasty kids, testing labs, wild animals, poisons, etc. Mine earn their keep by killing the occasional spider in the basement. That’s a biggie, I don’t like spiders :o)

I’ve had a dog, and tho’ I loved him, he was a lot of work and cost too much: vet, licensing, food, grooming. Didn’t like cleaning up his poop. I didn’t like being licked or drooled on, either. And he was always in my face. I’m more of a cat person. You can be affectionate with them when you want to, and they’ll leave you alone the rest of the time. Not as expensive. Only a litter-box to clean. They are nice and quiet, usually. I can’t have one because my dd is allergic.

I’m a “cat” person, and my hubby is a “dog” person. It’s been my observation that when a couple owns a pet, it’s usually the wife who has to take care of it. So after our dear dog died, I refused to get another one. Even if other family members promise to do all the maintenance…they just don’t. I have better things to do with my time. ;-)

Hey “lightenup”- I’m with you again!! I think I’m getting envious of you- you say all the great comments before I have a chance!! Yep, low maintence. Yet, some people just hate cats. He hates THAT one. I got a cat frm the ASPCA- he had been hit by a car- the bleeep thing was as smart as a box of rocks!! I tried for 3 yrs. w/him & he kept “coming home” upstairs!!-& the chick who lived there HATED cats. Sorry folks, but back he went!! Soo- Mr. Pickels is right- it CAN be just the cat (or the owner) or both. Ya gotta find the right pet-any pet- that can become your pal!!

We have shared our home with various cats and dogs. They have given us a lot of love and laughter and improved our existence. Only 2 cats at the moment.
