This era is no different from any other. People always defer to ‘experts’. These days, the ‘experts’ are on the internet. Back in the day, they drove around with a horse and buggy and peddled instant cure-alls…

Humans have generally been advancing for some 200,000 years, generally speaking that is, some are still in denial of science and facts, it’s called a regression.

If the data doesn’t fit the theory, fudge the data. That’s the scientific method, right? "See? I told you it was “settled science”

Yes indeed, there is a cabal of hundreds of thousands of scientists in the world who have banded together in a global secret combination to dupe 7 billion world citizens, all in the name of getting published and scaring up a grant or two. Yes, yes, it all makes sense now.

Go, Danae!@The Old Wolf: Thanks! I’m co-opting your answer as my standard when confronted with climate-change deniers.

BTW, I live in Florida and our governor has forbidden all state government workers from using the term “climate change.” However the mayor/city commissioners of the “small” southeastern communities—which include Miami—have been and are working with all kinds of planners to alleviate/prepare for the rising seas along the coastlines. One of them was quoted as saying, “Doesn’t matter what you call it, or whether you recognize it, it’s here and it’s getting worse.”

Oh, I forgot to mention that Rush Limbaugh is the smartest man in the world. I know them well, from the inside. I don’t honestly know how I escaped. When I did, I lost family and friends. But, then again, who needs friends that reality makes them miserable.

I tried to find this clip on YouTube since Alexikakos taught me how to embed from there, however there are just too many links. Not to mention that lately gocomics hasn’t been allowing playable clips. Anyway this is an episode of “The Daily Show” from back in 2011. In it Jon talked about the Koch brothers having their own scientist look over the climate data. Jon figured that the guy would just follow the conservative narrative about it being a hoax. However what in fact DID happen was the man discovered climate change to be true. He published an op-ed in The Wall Street Journal.

All of this discussion (read diatribe) about global warming, pro/anti-science conspiracies, and basic middle-schoolish yadda-yadda-yadda debate is missing the true point of this comic. The real question should be this - why did Danae (Willey) use the standard “R” in the sign? Shouldn’t have been the inverted version seen at the conglomerate toy store the phrase is ripping off? Maybe he’s been intimidated by a powerful copyright lawyer in the past. Or possibly he doesn’t want to inflict the Cyrillic alphabet letter “Я” on unsuspecting graphaphobes?Sadly, I doubt we will ever learn the truth.

The reason people came to New England was to worship thier own way and to get away from established denominations. I am sure there were no Catholics there in the 1600s.

I know that I would personally find the claim that humans are the cause of climate change to be more believable if:1) It weren’t for that pesky leak a few years ago about faked data. Do you really think people will just “forget” about that?2) The believers took steps to cut down their personal “carbon footprint” instead of expecting everyone else to do it all. “Do as I say, not as I do” doesn’t work on children, and it won’t work on me. To all of you believers out there… what have you personally done? Have you even gone so far as to give up your car and switched to public transportation, walking or a bike?2a) The “carbon credits” baloney wasn’t an option. If humans are truly the cause of the climate changing, then everyone should do as much as they possibly can and one polluter should not be given a free pass to pollute as much as they want just because someone else is more successful in their efforts at cutting back on the pollution they emit than they had been asked to be. I don’t remember polluters being given a similar option back in the 70s when we had a ton more pollution than we do now.3) I hadn’t seen convincing evidence that the Earth’s warming trend is actually caused by sun spots. You know, those signs of activity happening on that great ball of fire which resides at the center of our solar system.4) The climate doomsday scenarios were actually coming to pass. After all, Florida was predicted to have mostly washed away/been submerged by 2010.Not to mention that I have seen some of the “solutions” proposed to slow/reverse the warming trend, and frankly, they scare me. I can fully see some of those “solutions” causing more harm than if we were to simply adapt.

Danae has succeeded in the “denier” mode indeed. Lucy is aware that in much of the world already, the old saying: “When your up to your ass in alligators, it’s time to drain the swamp.”, is where we’re already at. That includes contaminated fishing waters and soils on flood plains damaged by rising ocean levels, then there’s the acidification issue.

Danae has a future in the fossil fuel industry, well and the pharmaceutical industry as well if she chooses.

Explain again how reducing the Earth’s thermal reserves will increase the amount of fresh water available and thus cause the seas to lower.
