@DOSQueenYou hit the nail on the head—These comments are rife with the likes of Nosirrom, who’ve never grown up beyond acting like the worst 8th graders.
A perfect illustration of why there is so much alienation and addiction in this society – the assumption that any communication, no matter how frothy, must lead to a tedious criticism of “society”.
How sad that you think that the all communication has to be serving an agenda.
The horse in this context is metaphorical. It is an allusion to the phrase “beating a dead horse”, often used to describe repeated attempts to make an obvious point even more obvious, by someone oblivious to the situation.
No actual horse was harmed in the use of this idiom.
So, this is a sort of Schrodinger’s Horse, apparently both alive and dead so that beating it is simultaneously horrendous and merely stupid – a perfect illustration of why there is so much alienation and addiction in this society…
@DOSQueen and @George Alexander,Apparently you two are from the puritan religious fundamentalist ethic that “that horrible 3 letter word” is a monstrous evil filth that as punishment for being “sinners”, “god” makes us go thru to carry out its command to populate the earth.
My wife and I hug for far longer than thirty seconds quite often…and it leads to nothing more than a warm (literally and figuratively) feeling, and comfort. I’d be very sad if the “thirty second rule” applied at our house!.Oh, and Unca Jim: “it’s” is a contraction of “it is”. Osgood’s use of “its” is correct; the possessive of “it” does not utilize an apostrophe.
Janis is hinting that she’d like to indulge in activities that their Baptist Neighbors would Disapprove of..Dancing, that is..Arlo better be careful. It could lead to “Morticia” speaking French…
We were doing that in the kitchen when I noticed a car had slowed almost to a stop and its occupants watching. So I waved. I could lip-read, “They see us, they see us” but the attempt to drag-race out of there was frustrated by a stop sign less than 50 feet ahead. We still get a laugh out of it when duplicating.
Sorry I’m late. I would have defended DOSQueen. My family exchanged hugs freely. I could hug my mother-in-law (platonically) and she and I enjoyed the sharing. Her daughters, on the other hand felt that touching was only permitted as a prelude to sex. Shocked my SIL with a birthday hug. My mother shocked my wife likewise. Not surprisingly I stayed close to my MIL much longer than to my (ex)wife or her sister.
eddie 3XWe hadn’t gotten that far and would do it out of sight of peeping tom families. However, we had as far as a bit of osculation, but not to the Jimbo and Rose stage (also out of sight).

With all the domestic violence in our culture, the portrayal of a long-married couple still this romantic is rather refreshing!

A perfect illustration of why there is so much alienation and addiction in this society – the assumption that any intimate touch must lead to dancing.
How sad that you think that the only intimacy has to be terpsichorial.

Is the horse (*) dead yet?
If not, I can keep beating it.

DOS Queen — MAJOR OVERREACTION on your part.
This kind of rule is the only way we can get those idiots to dance…
