Baldo by Hector D. Cantú and Carlos Castellanos for July 11, 2010
Transcript:
Baldo: How come you always keep my from doing what I want? Dad: I just don't think it's a good idea. Baldo: Well, I don't think you understand me! Baldo: You're, like, old! Things are different now! Baldo: Maybe your advice is bad! Maybe you don't know what you're talking about! Baldo: UGH... Baldo: Um... maybe you're right. Dad: I'm here for you, son.

Trouble is, most kids don’t listen the first time…

J-A”J”D: “What exactly was it that Baldo wanted to do this time?”
It’s pointless to speculate, not only because we cannot know unless the cartoonists tell us, but because it doesn’t make any difference.

Fritzoid, then too there are always the “smart” ones, like I was, who followed the “Don’t Tell, and Hope that They Won’t Ask” rule. ‘Though in my case I kept that to things were I already knew what the answer would have been and that I could be sure would not get back to my TattleTale of a younger sister.

Very gratifying when a kid begins to realize that A) the parent isn’t a total idiot, B) the parent was once a kid, too and therefore has probably made some of the same mistakes, and C) in the grand scheme of things, the parent is only one generation older, and that’s really not that much.

Mine was serving his second prison sentence, divorced for the third time, and lost all rights to visit all of his five children before he finally admitted that he should have listened to his mother years ago.

My son is now 28. He can’t believe how much I have learned in the last 10 years. I keep telling him I was young once and have already made most of those mistakes.

Joe: “Why do I have to see others post smart-alecky remarks about my comments on GoComics?”
You don’t have to. Why do you? Don’t feel required to answer that question for me as I won’t return to see an answer.

Today’s Baldo comic is a beautifully illustrated metaphor by talented artists. Way to go guys.

Jo-Jo, you can call me anything you like. I don’t care in the least. People started referring to you as “JAD” simply out of convenience, with no ill intentions. But you’ve made such a mountain out of that particular molehill that you invite further (and deliberately provocative) elaborations.
Rhetorical questions serve a rhetorical purpose. Yours seems to serve no purpose whatsoever that I can detect. It had no humorous content of its own, was not informative, invited no possible answers.
You might have followed up your questions with your own humorous suggestions of things that Baldo might have wanted to do, such as “Maybe he wants to dig a swimming pool in the yard and fill it with chocolate milkshakes” or so forth. Granted, that’s not particularly humorous, but this strip gives us no basis whatsoever for speculation, other than that Baldo wants to do something that Sergio is advising him against.

Fritz, Jo-Jo is not Joe Doty, he’s a different frequent commenter.
Joe, Fritz used the initials of the screen name you chose, which is a standard way of addressing another forum member. Don’t be so paranoid.

That “long standing standard way” has not observed on this particular forum as long as I’ve been participating in it, and it’s rather presumptuous of you to demand that we conform to your “rules” now that you’ve joined in. People shorten other people’s names around here all the time; nobody has ever made an issue about it (that I’ve seen) except for you.
“When in Rome…”, as they say.
You should grow a thicker skin, JAD; by being so easily offended, you guarantee that you will be offended, often, both deliberately and unintentionally.
