Yes, Pig, and they’ll all be texting because they’re babies; they don’t know any better.

I remember going to the Boston Science Museum back in the late ’80s. At the time they had a clock that was supposed to count the world census, complete with births and deaths at any given second. The birth rate ran twice as fast as the death rate as I recall.

It’s true. The world’s population increases by approximately 220,000/day. That’s net increase after deaths. It puts the death tolls from the earthquake in Haiti and the Indian Ocean tsunami, at over 200,000 each, into a very different, albeit just as disastrous, perspective. And so much for the utterly prosaic “miracle” of birth.

Why are births and deaths the only population increases and decreases people are accounting for? What about intergalactic migration?

Population increase by procreation is a third world problem. Industrialized, Democratized, Capitalized nations seem to have a population that diminishes over time. The only increase they see is from immigration from less civilized areas.

Rat is a typical alarmist. And Pig is a typical sheep, so to speak. I wouldn’t get all worked up about it, Rat….

Every time someone tells me that life is precious, I have to wonder why it’s so easy to make more of it.

Replying to Sandfan’s comment:Good. I see we’re not about to run out of small electronic gadgets any time soon. Best Buy must be breathing a sigh of relief.

Where I live out west, population has plenty of room to grow…in fact I can drive for hours and never even see another house….then if I go back east, I can drive for hours and hours and never even see open land…guess we know which part of the country needs to fix their lack of open land problem.

Human birth rates are slowly slowing down. Even in India and China. Only exception is Sub-Saharan Africa, and hopefully, with modern medicine and education, will slow there also. The real problem is that no one wants to pass on anymore. Everyone wants to live forever.

This world is far too overpopulated.

There has to be a limit somewhere.
