Poor Farley! This didn’t end well for him.

Is there anyone out there with pets who hasn’t had to deal with a skunk ‘rendezvous’ at least once? One time it happened and we were flat out of tomato juice…I had to use catsup instead. I don’t get the shaving though, I always got the dogs cleaned up with just a bath…and a few choice words which I won’t bore you with.

They’re not recommending tomato juice anymore. We used a different formula online which work okay. Still, time was the best healer - and our dog is a short-hair - can’t really shave him.

That ride home still isn’t going to be fun… gack

APerson: These are all repeats. Ms Johnson’s health has deteriorated to the point she can no longer make new.

I have a skunk that comes to steal my dog’s food. It doesn’t spray my dog, the blasted thing waits until it is under my bedroom window to let fly. There is nothing like it to wake you up out of a sound sleep.

Yukoneric, where is it written that Lynn Johnston is having health problems? She is just semi-retired from the strip.

Yeah, long haired dogs, it’s best to shave. And hey, it’s summer. Farley will be happier anyway!

She had always stated in interviews that the series would end when Michael got married. She went considerably longer to Elizabeth. She just semi-retired and is “tweeking” some of the old strips during the rerun.

I’d tell Michael that he’d rather live with a bald dog than a stinky one!

Years ago, my now-ex let my trusty, loyal Lab out in the early hours of the morning, and let him back into the house before leaving for work. I was still in bed, as my working hours didn’t start until 8:00 a.m.

Lab trots into my bedroom, curls up into his normal spot on the floor next to my bed. About five minutes later I had a “rude awakening,” to say the least. Poor dog had no idea why I was screaming at him to get out!

To all speculating about Lynn’s health – that is not the issue. She decided to quit the strip in 2007 when her 30-year marriage ended. She then changed her mind and went in the direction that we see today.

Chill, John!! Mike is just saying what comes to mind. As —— I —— suppose——- you are!!

I’m surprised that they can get that close to Farley so soon after he was skunked.

Lynn just got back a month or so ago from an overseas trip. You can read about it on fbofw.com. She certainly would not have been able to do the things she did if she had severe health problems.

jaeldid66 and poohbear said what I was thinking – my long haired cat loves to be shaved in the summer, except that my other cat then thinks she’s a different cat and will fight her. The first time it took us months to get them to be friends again.

In times like these, the kids just need to go elsewhere or help out. I’m also surprised they could be so close, but I guess it is entertainment, and maybe they all stink after this past week.

I am lucky. I have never had any of my dogs get sprayed. I did know a dog that I was taking care of that did. They had bathed him and did the tomato thing but he and the whole house still stunk when I went! I can see why they would want to shave Farley, it’ll make it easier to get the wash down onto his skin and all. Dad could have just told Mike that the dogs fur would grow back.

I was out sage chicken hunting when a skunk tried to spray me. Shot him right in the ass!

oh my goodness! I think Farley is so dumb. He chased after the skunk and then, he got sprayed from the skunk directly. Tsk! I betcha John and Elly were so pissed off. On the second panel, Elizabeth put her fingers on her nose from that stinky smell. LOLs! X-D Love the way she does.

Oh my! LOLs! Tmick2001, how bad did the skunk do after you shot it right in the ass? Ha ha ha ha ha haaaaa! X-D

Peroxide, baking soda, and detergent works much better than any tomato concoctions. It will also work on things a skunked dog touches. Don’t try tomato juice on a matress.

Instead of Dad getting mad, he should have Michael wash Farley down: it would punish Michael, it would get Farley de-skunked, and Mom and Dad could go about finishing packing, locking up the cabin, etc.

I know that John and Elly are upset that they’re now having to go through this skunk situation with Farley just as they’re preparing to go home but … how was any of this Michael’s fault? He’s a little boy who’s just asking what he thinks is a simple, common sense question because, at his age, he doesn’t understand that a simple bathing in this situation just won’t do this time around. So I don’t understand why he got yelled at! Great parenting skills there, John!!!

I still say that a stong lemonade shampoo is the cleanest, easiest way to go. Be sure NOT to use any sugar in the lemonade mix. Just use a lot of Real Lemon out of a bottle and make a strong solution. Saturate the dog and rinse. It is clean, not as messy as tomato juice or some of the other options and it smells good too.

I generally did it two times in a row. The first to get the worst of it off the dog and the second to do any touch ups or places that I might have missed.

My dogs were of the 100 lb. varieties and sometimes I had to use a lot of lemonade but it always worked. I even used it on myself because wrestling with the stinky dog generally got some of the spray on me as well.

Try it. It really works.

One of our old shelties got skunked at 2 in the morning. The other dog was up on the deck barking to egg him (or maybe the skunk) on.

Seems to me, he cleaned up rather quickly with tomato juice. Shelties are long haired, but double coated. The skunk spray didn’t seem to penetrate through to his undercoat. We didn’t have to shave him.

Had a dog named Teddy who we kept tied up outside. He also slept on top of his doghouse not unlike “Snoopy”. One morning when walking through his run to bring in the cows, I was startled by the sight of a skunk at the edge of my flashlight’s beam. I also noticed it was near Teddy’s food dish which was next to his house, and it was not moving. I crept closer and verified it had been killed by the dog. But there was no trace of any scent at all. Apparently, Teddy did not wish to share his food and attacked the skunk from his rooftop perch.
