Joe Pyle: So what have you girls been up to all day? Danae: Well... Long story short, we set the Ekert free, so now it's out helping people be nice... Which apparently goes against our economic system, so the corporation who actually owns the government is very upset... Kate: And they're gonna launch an invasion. Joe: I have got to stop asking them questions.

Ah but that is why you HAVE TO KEEP ASKING questions. Just wait, someday Danae will actually say what her lifeās ambitions are and you will have that one space to save the world!

Repeat the Suburban Sanity Song after me:

Sounds like the plot for the movie āWhatās So Bad About Feeling Good?ā where a Tucan spreads a virus that makes people happy, much to the horror of the government! Starred Mary Tyler Moore and George Peppard.
My favorite scene was an Ad Agency meeting trying to plan a campaign for a new Miracle Pill, and an āinfectedā ad man suggested they be honest and tell the absolute truth about the product. ā What can we say ?ā asks the VP in charge . āLong contemplative silenceā¦.ā
āWellā¦itās ROUND!ā

@marveeāIt was revealed awhile back that Flo, the coffeshop owner and barkeep, was involved with Capān Eddie back in the day. Around the time of Woodstock to be exact. Flo and Capān Eddie went to the big concert and nine months later Dad was born.
And yes, she is probably fuming at Capān Eddie since he is generally filling Danaeās and Katyās heads full of his nonsense.

Flo? And Capān Eddie? So theyāre Danaeās grandparents?
Yikes. My mind just boggled.

Great story so far, canāt wait to see where it goes

whoa, hold on there folksā¦ especially you, John Pike. The Woodstock storyline (the week of 9-14-09) DID NOT indicate in any way that Capt. Eddie is Joeās father. Donāt go making up stuff and present here as fact.

This could be TRUTH, even if fiction. Ever notice how people wonder what youāre up to if you spend a lot of time smiling? Of course they worry more if you laugh maniacally. Itās been a while since I laughed maniacally, 45 minutes and 33 seconds to be exact.

Wiley: if we canāt make up stuff and present it as fact, where will the political comments go?
myming over 14 years ago
most fathers w/ children that age figure itās just their imaginationā¦ but w/ danae, he should have had enough experience to know that āsomething oddā is upā¦

Sorry, Wiley. it sure looked like that was the implication. If Iām wrong, you have my most humble apologies. Perhaps I read more into it than was intended.

Hey Master Diver, I thought I was the only one who saw the movie āWhatās So Bad About Feeling Good?ā! Saw it on Tv when I was about 10. Some of the social satire went over my head. It would be interesting to see it again, and find out what I catch this time around. Iād also like to see āCold Turkeyā with Dick Van Dyke. It was about a corporation paying a town to quit smoking to prove that itās impossible. Another overlooked bit of social satire.

Of the several people here agreeing with Wileyās usual (and never admitted) anti-corporation prejudice, I wonder if any of them are aware that they have absorbed one of the oldest Leninist lies.
In the late 19th, early 20th century the German and Russian socialists split over several issues, e.g., nationalism vs. internationalism. Another split was their attitude toward corporationsāthe Soviets choosing to wipe them out by outright nationalization and the National Socialists choosing to allow them to survive as obedient vassals of the centralized state.
But both ends of the Left/Right European spectrum agreed that corporations were evil. America at the time was still celebrating the accomplishments of people like Carnegie, Rockefeller, Edison, and Ford, but that didnāt last as the European ideologies began creeping into the American psyche.
As just one avenue by which European socialism came to America: Why was Heidelberg never bombed in WWII? Because of the nostalgia of a bunch of New Dealers for their āStudent Princeā-style German educations. Those ideas are now so wide-spread that millions of Americans believe them without understanding their origins.

Trickle-down was a badly chosen term for the fact that in a prosperous economy, the benefits spread to everyone, even the poorest.
Just imagine a country where the main nutritional problem of the poor is obesity. And where most of the poor have color TV, air conditioning, a car, etc. If you want to see what poverty really is, go to half the countries of the world.
As for the comments from HG and FH, notice how rarely they offer facts or logic. Tells you something.
