Sounds like the plot for the movie ā€œWhatā€™s So Bad About Feeling Good?ā€ where a Tucan spreads a virus that makes people happy, much to the horror of the government! Starred Mary Tyler Moore and George Peppard.

My favorite scene was an Ad Agency meeting trying to plan a campaign for a new Miracle Pill, and an ā€œinfectedā€ ad man suggested they be honest and tell the absolute truth about the product. ā€ What can we say ?ā€ asks the VP in charge . ā€œLong contemplative silenceā€¦.ā€

    ā€œWellā€¦itā€™s ROUND!ā€

@marveeā€”It was revealed awhile back that Flo, the coffeshop owner and barkeep, was involved with Capā€™n Eddie back in the day. Around the time of Woodstock to be exact. Flo and Capā€™n Eddie went to the big concert and nine months later Dad was born.

And yes, she is probably fuming at Capā€™n Eddie since he is generally filling Danaeā€™s and Katyā€™s heads full of his nonsense.

whoa, hold on there folksā€¦ especially you, John Pike. The Woodstock storyline (the week of 9-14-09) DID NOT indicate in any way that Capt. Eddie is Joeā€™s father. Donā€™t go making up stuff and present here as fact.

This could be TRUTH, even if fiction. Ever notice how people wonder what youā€™re up to if you spend a lot of time smiling? Of course they worry more if you laugh maniacally. Itā€™s been a while since I laughed maniacally, 45 minutes and 33 seconds to be exact.

Hey Master Diver, I thought I was the only one who saw the movie ā€˜Whatā€™s So Bad About Feeling Good?ā€™! Saw it on Tv when I was about 10. Some of the social satire went over my head. It would be interesting to see it again, and find out what I catch this time around. Iā€™d also like to see ā€˜Cold Turkeyā€™ with Dick Van Dyke. It was about a corporation paying a town to quit smoking to prove that itā€™s impossible. Another overlooked bit of social satire.

Of the several people here agreeing with Wileyā€™s usual (and never admitted) anti-corporation prejudice, I wonder if any of them are aware that they have absorbed one of the oldest Leninist lies.

In the late 19th, early 20th century the German and Russian socialists split over several issues, e.g., nationalism vs. internationalism. Another split was their attitude toward corporationsā€“the Soviets choosing to wipe them out by outright nationalization and the National Socialists choosing to allow them to survive as obedient vassals of the centralized state.

But both ends of the Left/Right European spectrum agreed that corporations were evil. America at the time was still celebrating the accomplishments of people like Carnegie, Rockefeller, Edison, and Ford, but that didnā€™t last as the European ideologies began creeping into the American psyche.

As just one avenue by which European socialism came to America: Why was Heidelberg never bombed in WWII? Because of the nostalgia of a bunch of New Dealers for their ā€œStudent Princeā€-style German educations. Those ideas are now so wide-spread that millions of Americans believe them without understanding their origins.

Trickle-down was a badly chosen term for the fact that in a prosperous economy, the benefits spread to everyone, even the poorest.

Just imagine a country where the main nutritional problem of the poor is obesity. And where most of the poor have color TV, air conditioning, a car, etc. If you want to see what poverty really is, go to half the countries of the world.

As for the comments from HG and FH, notice how rarely they offer facts or logic. Tells you something.
