Phoebe and Her Unicorn by Dana Simpson for December 09, 2015
December 08, 2015
December 10, 2015
Transcript:
Phoebe: I'm trying to decide what to get Marigold for Christmas this year.
Dad: What about a gift you made yourself? Those show the MOST love.
Phoebe: Is this your way of saying I can't borrow money?
Dad: It's win-win.
“It build character, Cal- er, Phoebe”. Also, beneath that larger perspective is a guy who doesn’t want to spring for a christmas gift.
It’s amazing how some comic strips are so hugely influential that you keep seeing bits of them everywhere. And after I read the Peanuts, I swear every other comic seemed to be delightedly riding the tracks that Peanuts brazed.
Anyway, this is just a side note – the Calvin & Hobbes similarities do appear now and again, and it means nothing except that Bill Watterson had a tremendous impact of readers and fellow artists alike. All it means is that Simpson has good taste. :) I do love this strip; it’s top notch.

If I were Phoebe making a Christmas gift for Marigold, the first thing that comes to mind is a knitted horn warmer.

What do you get for someone who can conjure up just about anything they want magically?
Claire Jordan about 9 years ago
She could find a really good pet-shop and buy Marigold a big bag of fancy designer hay with herbs and flowers in it.

How about a full-length mirror, with a curtain that drops over it automatically after fifteen minutes of captivation?

Come on Dad, give her some money. How many people can say they helped get a Unicorn a present?
