Kate: W-w-w-what was that?! Danae: It's just a harmless old ghost haunting our house. His name is Reginald. Kate: Oh, it's such a piteous wail! His soul must be so tormented... Danae: Well, sort of... Ghost: OOOOAAHEEWWWYYEECHHOWOWEEEOOOHH, good lard! Is it too much to ask to get ONE decent bottle of shiraz around here?!

Wine snob… and now we know why he’s dead.

Merlot may be more reliable. Dadae might give him a Red Bull instead?

He wants something with a bit more body.

The sweet reds I fancy are apparently snubbed by wine snobs.

I believe this is a repeat from some years back.

gazperson, hermit, If you enlarge it enough, you’ll see it’s from ‘05……Not the date by Kate, but the one under the third panel….It is easier to read on yesterday’s strip….

Hmmmm….Date By Kate, a match making site?…..

Yup, I agree: a nice Shiraz with a dandy bite.

Still love this from yesterday: “Superfrog said, It’s not a good idea to mix wine and spirits.” (Good job.)

Hey Reginald, we know you’re a ghost and alcohol can’t affect you, but don’t try to affect it on the ones who are alive!

I like to listen to old time radio shows. One was a ghost story involving a pitiful wail! The wail was pitiful but not for the intended reason. I broke out laffing each time I heard it!

“Ahh good lard!” From the looks of him, it sure looks like it

Hey Reggie! Put a cork in it!

At least Reginald is not pining for a buttery Chardonnay. The real trick is a great Cab-Franc that doesn’t taste like green pepper.

Some would say, ‘just an ole wino’. The girls seem to take the haunting in stride.

An attractive friend of my brother owned a house in Charleston, SC, that was haunted by a lecherous old sea captain. He’d get all grabby unless she left out a glass of whiskey. He never drank it, but its presence kept him quiet, and her lady parts were safe so it was worth the expense.

The wine supply is depleted, the kid says it’s a haunt, & there’s a bridge for sale in Brooklyn.

I guess I haven’t been reading this ’toon long enough to be aware of all its critters. Who is Reginald and where did he come from?

Why is the comic in B & W? Also Danae’s dad looks different. Is this an older comic?

“Oh, I’ve just gotta have a drink, I’ve just gotta! Trouble is, where’s the five-star French Bordeaux when you need it the most?!"

As for wine, don’t whine, like what you like and don’t let anyone else tell you what you should like. And if box wine gives you a headache, try not drinking the whole box in one night the next time you try it. :P

In China, the expression for a habitual drunk/alcoholic, or someone who just likes wine more than socially acceptable (which has a sort of low threshold) is called a “wine ghost.”

“Oh, Good Lard”?
I once had a bumper sticker on my car that read “Jesus is Lard” and got my car vandalized with black spray paint.

The thing about discarnate spirits like Reginald is that they died in their alcoholism, without faith in a Higher Power to free them from their obsessive dependence on booze (or drugs, tobacco, etc.). In the long run, it really doesn’t matter whether you get drunk on the finest imported wines, or any old rotgut you happen to come across; you’re just as hooked either way! All that happens when a person dies is that the physical garment is dropped off; leaving the inner soul untreated… I know, because I’ve been there myself.

Apparently, no one has told Reginald about the current state of Relations between the USA and Iran.
Of course, since Iran became Muslim and Anti Alcohol, most Shiraz wine is bottled in France instead of the city of Shiraz.
