I finally got my own place when I was 27… that was shortly after New Year’s 2012.

Lived in my parents basement until I was 25. Then I bought a condo. Haven’t budged since.

    When did you move out?

Same as Bev.17, for college.End of my freshman college year, my parents moved across the country to California…stopped and picked me up, having selectively packed my things in my absence…made me move to California, too…but I only ever stayed with them the first two summers.

Never stayed with them again for more than a week or two… and never referred to visiting them as “going home”.

Military life means they moved to places where I’d never lived…. none were “home” to me.

Define “moved out”…At 15, I changed to a high school 3 hours away and lived in dorm during week. At about 18-19 and now in university 2 hours away, I stopped coming home for almost every weekend. At 24, I stopped getting financial support from my parents.

My dad arranged for me to go to a boarding school when I was in the fourth grade – my mom was what can most kindly be called a piece of work. Moved in with my grandparents when I graduated from high school, then got married.

I was the only kid whose parents ran away from home…Dad retired and they moved to Minnesota. I went to college, where I was a six month quituate. But I was not moving to the frozen North. So at 18 I was responsible for myself.

    18. Got married. I would regret the whole thing but it did give me two wonderful girls who I treasure more than life itself. So even if I could, I would not do otherwise.

Left ‘home’ at 17 to get away from an abusive, alcoholic Aunt. Got a job and an apartment – married at 20, happily for almost 50 years. I always figured I paid my dues in life living with my Aunt for 12 years. Both my kids lived at home until they got married in their early 20’s.

went to my high school graduation ceremony with my bags in the car and straight from that ceremony to the airport and the Air Force. That was almost 42 years ago Going into the service at the end of the Vietnam war was not the popular and respected choice that military service is today but it seemed better than what I had going on at the time… turns out it really was, I stayed in 21 years.

Permanently at 32 (2 years ago). My excuse is my parents dealt with health problems and I helped them out with bills. They never saw me as a burden and I never saw the need to leave until that time.

Lived at home during college, emerged debt-free. Took a traveling job after graduation, and bought a house and moved out when I married one year later.

I was asked to leave at 15 so I lived with my sister. I worked full time, paid rent, cleaned and watched her kid on the weekends till I was almost 17. Sister was pregnant and getting ready to get married to my BIL who just passed in October. Was allowed to move back in with my mom and paid rent till 19 when I moved out with a boyfriend. We lived in Ferguson for about a year and a half. I was almost 21 when I had to move back. Finally moved out for good at 23 with the young man who became my hubby.
