Petey: I learned a new oboe piece called "Sad Little Monkey." Alice: Can we hear it? Petey: heenkhahooghoogheenkhoohoohankhahonkaonkankoogoog Petey: hongkahoohoohongkahoohooeenkeenkoohaeenkennkhoo Alice: That was so sad. Dill: Sob Alice: Especially the part in the middle, where the monkey loses his socks in the backyard and he gets yelled at by his mom. Sniff- Dill: It's so unfair. Dill: Or the part where nobody likes him and he doesn't get invited to the lemur's party and he's home all alone. sob. Alice: That was powerful stuff. Petey: wow.

Wow, indeed. I bet even Petey himself didn’t realize what powerful stuff that oboe treatise is. And his playing—just overwhelming!

I’ve read the whole series three times, and yet sometimes they put a strip up, like this one, that I don’t remember at all.

I loved this strip, having had a brother, husband and daughter that played the oboe – and I agree, once you know how to play it, it is beautiful.
