Not sure I’m following this story line correctly, but would El be out of a commission if the house is for sale by owner. Maybe money is more important to her than friendship.

Perhaps it’s not on whatever the Canadian MLS is? There was a sign up though, she would have seen that. Not sure if artistic licence or what.
