Instead of “asking” Tracy, pass by, ask the Roach, and find out who(?), has your missing X-Ray glassesThat’s well ‘worth’ a Thou$and or so . . .“Meetings” with the Police ‘these days’ only draw a “Blank”

If the informant is John L. Springsteen, he needs to be careful. Playing both sides of the fence can be very dangerous.

My money is on John L. as the second informant, unless it was someone we haven’t seen at all. Tracy must get a pretty good petty cash allowance as chief of detectives and head of MCU—enough to pay plenty for good information!And, now, knowing that Specs and accomplice (hey, Spicy’s the brains of that little op!) are on their way to Cuba, Tracy can punch up a call to Wunbrow giving him the BOLO….

There may have been A “Falling Out” but the Authors seem to “THANK” former member Jim Doherty for that ‘precise detail;, matching so exactly with the *Chicago Police Chief’s* uniform.

We may be seeing the first signed contribution from the new police consultant as early as tomorrow’s strip, but Jim’s contributions over the years have certainly not been forgotten. Recently, Mike emphasized that Jim was part of the team that won the Harvey Award for best syndicated comic strip or panel three years in a row. He can be proud of his achievements.

The art today is great, particularly the unusual angles of Tracy’s head in Panel 1 and Smith’s head in Panel 2. The Chief’s arm in the last panel is at a bit of a strange angle in my opinion, but it does show off his stripes well and at least it’s not anatomically impossible as some characters were drawn in years past.

Are real life police allowed to pay informants? Different question: Do real life police pay informants?

Yes, police pay informants. That is what the “$X reward for any information leading to …” is all about. The biggest problem with informants is false tips given to cause the police to harass an unrelated party out of revenge.

I wonder what Bogart the Roach spends that money on? ;-)
