Actually, I would say those boards are decidedly NOT on his side. They seem to be very much against him.

It almost looks like Elaine is sitting across the support. Maybe she noticed the bad boards and compensated by shifting her weight so she could chuckle at Everett.

It isn’t the bench, it is Everett. Just look at what (and how much) was sitting on said bench.Wood has a certain tensile strength and then KAPOW!

Everett will undoubtedly reduce the number of fingers he is holding up by two.

Elaine Ebberson has always had a definitive grasp of the obvious. Everett will no doubt thank her, for her apothegmatic assertion, – as soon as he extricates his bruised behind, from the bad, and broken, bench boards beneath his buttucks

So true ! I remember the intense doggie ( and kitty ) stares when someone was in the kitchen.I swear that the cats could hear an electric can opener a mile away. One second they’d be asleep downstairs and at the sound of the can opener would be instantly right by your side. The dogs always just positioned themselves to assist in cleaning up, should you drop something on the floor.
