The snow that falls during the iconic poppy field scene in The Wizard of Oz is actually toxic asbestos. So lonely... Barry Manilow did not write his hit I Write the Songs. Maine is the only US state to border just one other state.
Then who did write the songs that makes the whole word sing, of love and special things, and that make the young girls cry? (I hope Judy and the guys were okay in the poppy scene.)
Until quite recently, a lot of people still had old boxes and bags of artificial snow for Christmas decorating that was the same stuff…. flakes of pure asbestos. Some even came in plastic bags, and didn’t look old, like this 1940’s box, cos we still didn’t know in the 1970’s that it was dangerous:
In addition, home insulation, sound absorbing ceiling tiles, hot pads and vermiculite for flowerpots contained loads of it.
A lot of people horrified by reading about the Wizard of Oz snow would be more horrified by finding out how much asbestos is still in their homes and possessions.
If made solid like in an old trivet it’s fairly safe… loose and fibrous… what they call friable… it’s bad for you over time.
Don beardon…Trick statistics!True…. but that means they don’t border on one state.
@Meh~tdologyThe neighborhood that I live in was built around the turn of the century (1900) and there are still a lot of houses that have those shingles. They last forever and the replacement cost is extremely high, only because of the cost to remove the shingles properly.
Seems to me that this item is trying to give the impression that the person singing it is claiming to have written all the songs. Since the lyric is, “I am music, and I write the songs” it isn’t exactly a Ripley-worthy revelation that Manilow didn’t write it.
Maine borders on New Hampshire, which borders on Vermont to the west and Massachusetts to the south. I had to look at a map again to see that Rhode Island doesn’t just have Connecticut to its west as a bordering state; Massachusetts is big enough to border both Rhode Island and Connecticut on their northern borders. And New Jersey? It borders with both New York and Pennsylvania. Until recently, I was only sure it bordered New York.

As I understand it Asbestosis takes between 15 -40 years to show it’s effects. A silent killer.

As I understand it one has to be exposed to asbestos a long time before it kills you

“I Write the Songs” was written by Bruce Johnston, who joined the Beach Boys when Brian Wilson stopped touring with band around 1966.
