I had to care for some elderly relatives 400 miles from where I live. I had to have a lawyer quickly. I picked one out of the phone book.He did all the legal work at a very reasonable fee.He went to the hospital to get my Aunt’s signature twice. At no extra charge.Since I had to drive the 400 miles, he would do all the paperwork in one afternoon so I could sign it.One evening about 7 pm, as I was waiting on his secretary to finish some paperwork he got a phone call. As he was putting on his coat he was cussing the cops. He told me that he had to go get a black kid out of jail. He said this was a good kid, had a job and had never been in trouble. The kids brother was always in trouble. The cops could never find his brother so they arrested the good kid. Usually at his job.He said I have to go to the jail and explain to the cops again that they had the wrong kid. I didn’t find out, but it’s my guess that the lawyer did all this without charging the kid. How could a teenager make enough money to pay a lawyer to come get him out of jail at 7 oclock in the evening? The lawyer appointed by the court to be an advocate for my Uncle was another story, however. I think he charged me for the air he used while he was on the case. He had to go to court once and file some papers. He charged me almost as much as my lawyer did for all his work.My lawyer was an ex-state representative, Democrat. My Uncle’s high dollar lawyer was running in some kind of county election as a Republican. Somehow that didn’t surprise me.
I’ve worked for lawyers as a paralegal in a onetime San Francisco “defense powerhouse” back when such things existed.I’ve hired lawyers to represent me in my own court and administrative actions.I’ve fired lawyers, too.I’ve even dealt with lawyers in one of my deceased parent’s actions, too.And the one constant I’ve learned about lawyers in all the times I have dealt with them is that they seem to be “in it for themselves” and only themselves. It’s not about your case or situation, it’s more about how the lawyer can either use you and/or your situation to put money in their pockets or enhance their reputation and prestige even at your expense. And all lawyers know how to use people and their situations any way they damn well please, which is probably why they make the best politicians. And business people make for a distant second.
All attorneys should be shot or hung, followed by realtors, and then, maybe judges. Don’t get me started on legislators(senators and representatives(definite misnomer)

If people were honest and told the truth, what need would there be for lawyers? Or courtrooms? (cue “Imagine” by John Lennon)
