USA parents are awesome…they don’t hesitate to circumcise boys at bith but they are against piercing girls ears that’s a little itch compared to the circumcision carnage and nonsense abuse.
For heavens sake, my daughter was 4, she’s 50 now and it doesn’t matter now.And she never had a problem with them!(she also has a teeny diamond in her nose)Much ado about nothing
I was 56 when I got mine pierced. Figured I was old enough. OTOH one friend said her Phillipino aunts were pissed when her Latvian mother refused to get her ears pierce while she was still a toddler.
For the Arapaho Indians, the children had their ears pierced. Enduring the pain was a sign they could better handle frustrations in puberty and their later years.
In India, 95% of baby girls get their ears pierced as infants just a few months old. And knowing India, you cannot believe that it would be done in any ultra-hygienic facility. But there has been no epidemic of related infections as a direct or indirect result of ear piercings.
At the same time, 80% of that country of 1.25 billion+ people does not circumcise, and again, there is no epidemic of disease spreading related to that either.
So let’s please not get our garments in a bunch over potential for infection and disease…
well i am a christion and i believe that boys are supposed to circumsied at birth,…no hate mail please i am expressing my beliefs, you have yours and i have mine…
Oh, this brings back memories. I think I was in 4th grade before my mother finally gave in on pierced ears. And yes, I did do the “all the other girls have them” argument. And to this day I will joke that it’s unfair babies, like my niece’s daughters, get pierced ears without having to nag their mothers for them.
I had my ears pierced when I was 8. The doctor next door did it, and did his 6 year old daughter the same time. He had to talk both mothers into it. I am forever grateful for it :)
Moi? She wouldn’t allow it, I waited until I was either in college or married. Looking back, it’s not such a big deal after all. Just a tiny place to put earrings. Geesh.

How did Paula’s parents allow it? Did they cave when one of HER same-age friends got their ears pierced?

If the girl still says “gots”, then she is not mature enough to have them.

At 78, I’ve never heard of any Jewish boy or man who ever had problems because he was circumsized when he was 8 days old (a tradition).
