Nate: Trudy and I just broke up.
Francis: WHAT?
Teddy: Really?
Nate: yeah, and I'm pretty bummed about it.
Nate: Hi, There.
Francis: But not TOO bummed.
Nate: You gonna finish that brownie?
Pretty bummed about it? By the looks of this entire storyline, Nate was much more concerned about his friends than her. She’ll most likely be another ex who he forgets about in a week. Also he’s a smooth dude
he got over it in a few seconds… hes probably dying inside and just putting on an act. i predict that trudy will go to the lunch table and try to apologize
I’m hoping that at some point in the future Trudy will come back and apologize. In the meantime remember that Nate is only in the sixth grade and most that age have a rather short span of attention. Getting over it by the end of the day? Not surprising at all.
I wonder…will the breakup storyline appear next week, or will it never be mentioned again? If they don’t get back together, I hope Trudy at least appears again. Angie appeared a couple times after she broke up with Nate. I doubt this is the last of Trudy, though.
February 12, 1998- Angie, Nate’s first girlfriend, breaks up with Nate. By the end of the week she has a new boyfriend. It made it worse the fact that she broke up with Nate on Valentine’s DayApril 11, 2002- Nate breaks up with Kelly. Jenny had recently broken up with her boyfriend Ronnie (Artur was not her boyfriend back then) so Nate, who never learns, decides to break up with Kelly. He writes a note to her on a detention slip, causing her to grow very angry. Even though Nate and Kelly broke up, Nate was ready to go out with Jenny…until he saw she already had a boyfriend again.May 31, 2013- Nate developed a crush for Lila, who was the new pitcher on his baseball team. It turns out she already had a boyfriend (ironically) named Nate. These two were never actually going out, but I found it mentionable. During that same game, Jenny returned from Seattle, and Nate chased her around for a few years.March 25, 2016- Nate breaks up with Trudy. She’s officially joined the club.
Wow, everyone is pretty quick to assume that Nate will do not engage in any self-reflection about the end of this relationship. Maybe he will surprise you.
I enjoyed this romance story arc with Trudy and Nate. I liked it, I liked it a lot and if this ever makes a printed volume, I’ll be making a point to purchase it. I enjoy good, well-written romances, and this one certainly is.
From the first “meet cute” at the amusement park, to the summer of love where Nate searched for Trudy high and low, to the first kiss, to meeting the parents, to trouble in paradise and then the eventual break-up.
I can see a lot of boys-vs-girls debate on who’s to blame. Some may say Nate’s to blame for the end of the relationship – Nate has an awfully nice girlfriend and consider himself lucky that he has one – and embrace the differences. Some might say that Trudy is to blame – her disinterest in spending time with Nate’s friends was the breaking point in the relationship.
But all in all, I would say that there is no one is to blame. The kindest thing I can say is that Trudy and Nate were simply not meant to be together.
Trudy was a lovely chapter in the Big Nate saga. I do hope that the author may bring her back some day. She’s too good of a character to just write off.
Ahhh…Tis better to have loved and lost than never loved at all! All the same, I would like to see a little moral growth out of our hero than “you gonna finish that brownie?”
The good thing is that we can now look forward to Gina coming to Nate on her knees begging for a chance at romance during this brief window of opportunity with the babe-magnate (riiiight)!

Why is everyone convinced they’re done? Isn’t there a possibility of Trudy coming to “The Table” and introducing herself to the gang on Monday?
