That is rude. Deaf does not always mean full loss. I had a colleague who often communicated by sign language as he was totally deaf in one ear. However, he had only 25% loss in his right ear, so shouting was the equivalent of someone holding a bullhorn next to your head.
In a recent poll, people were asked if they had to give up sight or hearing which would they choose: Majority of men wanted to keep sight, women wanted to keep hearing!
