It isn’t polite to ask, so we just guess.

I know others I work with are paid more but I only work 40 hrs/week. The money for the the extra 20 hours can’t buy back my life.

I was taught that it was considered rude to ask.

I’ve met people who couldn’t stand the intrigue and blurted out at a party, “It must be nice to have all that money”. I felt sorry for their stupidity and was embarrassed for the person.

I know that my nieces and nephews all thought we were rich because we had only one child while they were a family of 9 kids. They thought we were an unlimited source of money whenever they asked. We had to disabuse them of that notion, and they all stopped talking to us for a while.

Disabuse – I had to look it up, and found that it is a word that all grandparents should know. Now if I can just learn how to use it!

I never made big money in my work life, but I never spent big money either. Now I’ve got all I need in retirement unlike some people who spend it faster than they make it.

Well, everyone knows what teachers, garbage pickers, politicians, and letter carriers make and it is “too much”… and that same everyone says they could do those jobs with their eyes closed.

There are certain subjects that are not discussed in polite company, to include age, money, medical issues. Also, it is not one’s business how many children a family has if you are not the one supporting them.

If they are public employees, you can look it up!

One of the most interesting things about 19th century British literature is that everyone seems to know what the others are making. Nowadays, if you’re not a public employee, it’s illegal to even ask. We knew at our work though. When I started, I worked the same job with 2 others, making $2 an hour more than one, and $2 an hour less than another with less education (he had less). Considering some of us were in the single-figures, that difference was significant!

@comicsssfan. People on scooters are barely tolerated in my city, even less than bicycles on public roadways.I think it would be an appropriate punishment to limit persons found guilty of D.U.I. To the use of scooters for let’s say about 5 years. And they would have to wear a special, identifying helmet so those who choose to ride a scooter wouldn’t be terrorized to the same degree!
