I once needed some funds from a bank. They said they couldn’t give them to me because the lady in that department was out to lunch. I said,“So if she dies in a car accident on the way back, I’ll never be able to get my money?”

It is so great when you find that person. I did and wound up saving 30 bucks/month on my cell phone bill. I read a study, once, that said 84% of employees/bosses don’t have a clue what they are doing. I pride myself on being in the 16% or at least trying.

You want action—ask “Can I speak to somebody smarter than you?”

Once my mom was getting the runaround from the local Sears store manager. So she called the president of Sears in Chicago. The next morning the store manager was at her door with the missing item! He gave her his HOME phone number and told her if she ever had a problem again don’t hesitate to call….but PLEASE never call Chicago again!

I just had this happen to me – in Spanish – when I was endeavoring to get some pertinent information out of the Ecuadorian equivalent of the IRS !

I am retired from a large aircraft manufacturing company. There are only enough people who actually know what is going on to keep the place running. I think 16 percent may be a little low, but I will go with that.I had a sign over my desk that said, “If you make more money than I do, I won’t tell you how to do your job.”At the main plant, a nice lady who was the female “token” in her department was not out of her element, but just didn’t know the day to day ins and outs of her job. I did, as I was there before the her department was formed.I kept her informed and she did really well, to the consternation of her managers.Twenty years ago it was the most racist, anti-woman company one could imagine.

In an attempt to get some service a few years ago, I started calling companies using the Yellow Pages (okay, I know, but this was a few years ago) and my first call was to the first company listed. After seven answering machines or convoluted electronic interfaces, I finally reached a human being and ordered the service from the company he represented.

As we were ending the call, he asked me why I chose his company from all the others in the directory. I answered, “Because you answered the phone!”

I had that almost exact thing happen once, only instead of on vacation she temporarily went to another location. This company just fell apart, and they were like, she’s coming back next week we should be able to get things straightened out then.
