I hate this ‘throw out everything that doesn’t bring joy’-philosophy, it just encourages people to consume & discard. There’s nothing wrong with being practical!
I have 2 or 3 ‘joy’ clothes. The rest are practical, nicely dressed up, every day dressed up and a few ‘I wouldn’t be seen dead in that but I wear it at home because it is soooo comfortable’.
Betty, they’re clothes. They’re supposed to be practical. You’re going to end up in jail if all you have left to wear is sweaters! (Unless they’re long enough to wear as sweater dresses.)
‘You should never keep anything that isn’t useful or beautiful.’ I truly believe this. Including the part that suggests that ‘beautiful’ is an equally important criteria as ‘useful.’

I dunno, I find that applying sentimental value to items, especially when the no longer work, creates even more clutter.

What would bring me joy would be to get into a size 10 again, but purging my closet isn’t going to help.
