I don’t recall and haven’t tried to research it yet… but when did we learn Snoopy’s name? My memory may be faulty, but I’m thinking he was around for some time before his name was called. There was certainly lag time between his early appearances and the establishment that he was Charlie Brown’s dog.
After a job unloading freight boxcars of 125lb bales of shredded coconut for Nabisco, it was more than 10 years before I could stomach the scent of coconut much less the taste. No longer my favorite, but I find I can at least eat it again.
We’re getting into the strips I remember and recognize. Of course, not from first runs (I’m just a few years too young) but from reading the Peanuts collections, along with B.C. and Wizard of Id, we had when I was a kid.

I’m not into coconut either (and yet I still never owned a dog)

I love coconut, and I love that nobody else tends to like it – more for me!

Pass them over here, Charlie Brown. I’ll gladly take them off your hands.

I like coconut. I could never understand why Peanuts was ribbing it all the time.

As you get older, Charlie Brown, you will learn to love coconut (especially in piña coladas).
