Our local Mistress Of All She Surveys likes corned beef. Of course, it is proper Australian corned beef, and smells no worse than half-dead socks. We only let her have a tiny scrap, because it is very salty.

But leprechauns? They are Irish, not American, and Georgia lives in America. (I know lots of Americans pretend to be Irish because some ancestor came from Ireland, but that won’t move the leprechauns.)

If you actually make the corned beef, yes, the smell of it cooking is pretty much going to fill the whole house for a day or two. The canned stuff, on the other hand, is pretty subtle. And while proper corned beef originated in many countries at once, canned corned beef all seems to come from Argentina (there’s also corned mutton, which for some reason comes from New Zealand).

OK, hadn’t seen it before, but the corned beef looks like a monster with the cabbage eyes & carrot fangs.

Chocolate IS Gold according to my wife. Yes some meat preparations DO smell like dead socks, but just add some spicy mustard & gag it down.

I’m with ya on that Puck, I’m not a big fan of corned beef myself. It’s actually TOO salty for me, a guy who probably has WAY too much salt in his diet as is.

Corned beef is delicious, I love the saltiness….just try to keep the fat to a minimum. On the other hand, I could usually do without the associated cabbage!

I’m Scot-Irish. For a long time I thought it meant that I was one half Scot and one half Irish. Then I found out that it meant my ancestors were Scots who immigrated to the United States by way of Ireland. In the political terms of Northern Ireland, I would be labeled Protestant. Not because of my religious heritage, but because my ancestors moved into Ireland after the English took the land.
