I remember Haileys Comet fly-by in 1986, driving up to the mountains to get out of the city light pollution, looking through the telescope to see a fuzzy white blur. While the image may have been less than spectacular, it only occurs once every 75 years so I was still thrilled to be able to see it at all.
What a cruel thing to do. Elvis, not abducted by aliens, but going willingly, has his brain removed and held on Zort? Or is this ‘disinformation’ that is being used to panic the public, much like the evening news?
So Opus is thinking “Should I report this? Nah… no one would believe me. But Elvis’s brain will continue in captivity. Altogether, not such a bad thing.”
My husband and I flew down to the Caymans, as far south as we could afford, with comet observation forefront in mind. Viewing Halley’s was a bit underwhelming, but Grand Cayman was great! Have been there twice since.

Either Opus is the only observant one up there, or he needs to lay off the fermented herring for a while.

If Zort seeks a ransom, don’t pay it!

Some people prefer hoopla and fireworks to some of the more suttle wonders in our universe.

1986 was the year of all the fuss over Halley’s Comet and later on, “ALF”. (Among many things.)

What do you think, Opus? Was the telescoping worth it? Anything else of interest going on?
