Too bad we don’t have those in the “real” world.

I can’t tell if this an homage to Mort Walker’s “Lexicon of Comicana,” or a rip-off.

And what are those dots under the WHAM called? And the landing marks under Opus?

(Probably left out because there wasn’t enough room for the descriptionle.)

Some comics had weird little symbols in a speech balloon. Denoted a naughty word.

It all starts out with a lie because I doubt anyone EVER requested a handbook for comix comprehension.

    To be continued:

Smoozles — swirling mid-air hearts, indicating strong love

Oogahs — a series of telescoping eyes, indicating sexual attraction

Bugeyes — sudden enlargement of eyes, indicating surprise / disbelief

Zizzles – short squiggly line(s) above a character’s head, indicating brain overload

Shroomies – small mushroom cloud over a character’s head, indicating rage

Astros — Not the Jetsons’ dog, but mid-air stars and planets around a character’s head: see “Stars”

Bows — mid-air rainbows, candy canes, unicorns, etc., indicating (usually short-lived and naive) hopes, dreams, and/or fantasies

    [to be continued]

    Your turn!

Oh, thank you, all-knowing BB (wouid that be a “booble”?) for the explication de texte, without which I would never “get” the comic!
