This prompted me to listen to Louie Louie on Apple Music … first time hearing the song in years. The Kingsmen recorded it in 1963. They weren’t around too long — broke up in 1967. Along with the album information was this: “It’s hard to believe, but three simple chords, a sloppy drum beat, and unintelligibly slurred vocals changed history.”

The FBI actually sent agents to the studio to listen to the Kingsman tapes. What was really nasty was Little Richard’s original Tutti Fruity.
