Okay, I was ready to go off on a rant about Breathed ripping off B Kilbanâs classic âMousiesâ song until I finally noticed the credit in the title card.
It was April the 41st â it being a quadruple leap year â and I was driving in downtown Atlantis. My Barracuda was in the shop so I was driving a red Stingray, and it was overheating, so I pulled into a Shell station. They said Iâd blown a seal. I said, âFix the damn thing and leave my private life out of it, okay?â
It was funny in the old days but also ridiculously inaccurate when Opus fretted about being eaten by a walrus. Walruses live only in the Arctic and penguins in the Antarctic. And besides, walruses eat mainly clams and other bivalve mollusks, not waterfowl.
AlexandertheGoodEnough has it right. So did the Happy Feet movies. The principal predator of penguins, at least in Antarctica, is the leopard seal. And they are as scary and bloodthirsty as Happy Feet depicted them. But BB chose walruses as an Opus predator originally because a lot more people knew about walruses than leopard seals, not to mention that walruses look funnier and the name âwalrusâ sounds funny too. Of course, later on BB figured out that elephant seals were also funny looking.
By the way, orca whales also prey on penguins. Perhaps the orcaâs audition will be tomorrow.
