Phoebe: Dad, what was the Nintendo Entertainment System really like?
Dad: It was the most awesome thing ever! It was an 8-bit system, which at the time was-

By 1983, 8-bit ’tweren’t much. Mattel’s 16-bit Intelevision had been out for years, as had the 8/16 hybrid IBM PC. Of course, in 1983, I was already in my 30s, and had been using real computers for 18 years, so I don’t have quite the same perspective as Phoebe’s dad.
So close. My forst console was the Super Nintendo Entertainment System, but I know the first Nintendo was also good. Daddy either must now believe he is boring, if not, then at least suspect something is up.

I wouldn’t have stuck around either, but I would have left more subtly. Don’t ask how. One of my hands is in a cast so it takes a bit to type.
