A life lesson for Nelson: Dogs are not so much into philanthropy.

It’s a shame Nelson didn’t say what kind of bug it was. If it were a cockroach, I’d squish it. But, hey, he doesn’t know much entomology yet so I can’t blame him.

As a teen, I used to catch cicadas for my cat who would eat them until he barfed.

Years ago I was walking into a mini mart and saw a June bug on the sidewalk, upside down, struggling to turn over. I stopped, flipped it over, wished it well and went in the store, made my purchase, returned to my car. While sitting in my car, preparing to leave, I saw a guy park and start walking in to the store. He spotted the June bug crawling, went out of his way to walk over and squash it under his boot before going into the store. All the peace and goodwill I had felt drained out of my mind and body. It was a lesson learned about human behavior that I have never forgotten.

Not an act of deus ex machina but it’s a case of deus ex canis.Dog is, after all, God spelled backwards.

One day, years ago, i was walking my parents dog, when he scooped up a bug off the sidewalk. It turned out to be a cidada, which started buzzing like mad. He couldn’t get it out of his mouth fast enough.

I guess the lessons of Buddha don’t apply to dogs, lol.
