How should Cathy end? In typical Cathy fashion of course.

    AACK!

It shouldn’t end! PLEASE—Say it isn’t so! I think we have been together longer than you and Irving! At the very minimum, do a Peanuts and start over from the beginning! That will at least give us a few more years…..PLEASE!!!

I agree with Sandra Olson. It would be great to do a rerun starting with the first episode. Please try and sell it to the powers that decide these things. I’m sure there’s enough of us to sign a petition or write letters or something.

But …. But ….. I AM Cathy!!! Cathy is my life!! How will I know what’s going to happen to me next if she is gone??? Cathy is my alternate universe - it is just spooky how similar our lives have been.

This one was sweet, and typical Cathy – pushed to the extreme. I will miss Cathy also. Even though the story lines are repetitive, she still managed to hit the nail on the head most of the time.

Yeah, Cathy will be missed. But, I am glad there will be no continuation by somelse or a redo by Guisewite.

This ‘toon changed when Cathy got married…I did not read it as much after that.

I would’ve liked the strip to go on until we got to see the birth of Cathy’s mother’s grandchild.

Then again, who would want to actually see that in a comic strip?

    Hail and Farewell…

Cathy has been my favorite friend for as long as I remember. It is one more thing that goes away as you get older. I will be very sad not to have something to laught about every day. Gary Larson’s ..The Far Side… is another laugh that’s been stiffled. Where are all the cartoonists with a funny, quirky sense of humor?

Add my vote to those who have expressed a hope for “Classic Cathy” remaining in the papers (especially 1979-1986, which IMHO were the peak years for “Cathy”).

At least I hope we can expect a “Complete Cathy Collection” series of books in the near future.

It’s indeed sad that comic strips have descended to such a low level of quality that the best ones are reruns.

Cathy should end with her finding happiness after all the years of struggles. It has been a great strip and I will miss it.

HOW TO END? CATHY AND IRVING SHOULD DECIDE TO ADOPT A CHILD. THE LAST PANEL SHOULD SHOW THE EXPRESSIONS ON THE F ACES OF THE FOUR GRANDPARENTS-TO-BE. AND WE CATHY FANS CAN VISUALIZE THEM ALL GOING ON LIVING HAPPY LIVES.

Adopt or have one, whichever… Classic Cathy might work, though. And It’s Classic Peanuts, BTW, because Mr Schultz is no longer with us… at least Ms Guisewite is still around; maybe at some point after she’s rested a bit, she might do a new and different strip… (read - get bored out of her mind because there’s no deadlines to meet - my mother is like that; 81 and still working, because she wouldn’t know what else to do, basically.)

I will really miss Cathy too. I have all of the books and was very disappointed that there hasn’t been any recent ones (esp. when the strip continues to go on). I hope Cathy and Irving get pregnant so Anne can finally have the realization of her long-awaited grandchild. I hope to see Zenith and Gus before the strip ends so we can see how they turned out.

I have a question for you CATHY fans who own the books, like me.

My last book of the collection of the Cathy comic strips, in dated order, is SHOES: CHOCOLATE FOR THE FEET. That was released in 2000. I have the wedding one, too. Is there any new books with the daily strip collection in them? There are so many strips I am missing. Are there no other newer books by Guisewite?

it would be really great if Ms. Guisewite would treat her true fans (not the ones who come here to constantly complain) to one more book that continues the strip for a little while…….

It has always amused me the way people will take the time to log in, track to a comic, and post that they don’t like it. What on earth is the point, folks? If you don’t like the comic, don’t read it, don’t post about it, just ignore it.

I’m with cstenod40; I started tracking comics on-line when the local paper dropped Cathy, Foxtrot, and a couple others in favor of some really dumb (but probably much cheaper) trash.

I cannot believe that Cathy’s ending. I have been a great fan for years and own most of the books. It’s a real shame to lose such a lovely comic strip that speaks to so many. As for you who have just logged in to leave negative messages what sad individuals you are. Get a life. Cathy I’ll miss you terribly. You’ve been a very happy break every day I have read your comic strip. I do hope that the latest comics will come out in a book sooner or later and I’ll be keeping an eyr out for them. Really sorry to see you go as this is the only comic strip I have ever followed for such a very long time. Will miss you loads.

Cathy should NOT get pregnant. That would be jumping the shark. And why do that when the strip is ending anyway? The strip sort of jumped the shark when she married Irving.

I guess I’ll miss the strip too. Does anyone remember the Cathy Valentine Special that came on TV around 1990 or 1991? It was hilarious!

This is one of my favorite comics, our paper doesn’t run it, so the only way I see it is online. I think it should end by her & Irving sailing off into the sunset….AAAKKKK!!!! Good Luck Cathy in whatever you choose to do with your life……you will be missed.

What will the other comics do without Cathy? How many times she turned up as a blind date. My favorite was she turned out to be the much hyped blind date for the scuzzy lawyer-womanizer Steve, in Bloom County. But Cathy’s hit most of the strips in some capacity or another. They all seem to love drawing her. I just wish the REAL Cathy has an excellent life for the gift of this comic, that all these worries are hers no more and remind her that she does NOT need to have children to have a rich full life. Or get pregnant. I’m sure she’s gained an immense understanding after all her cartoon Cathy years. And cheers to her mother.

I’ve read Cathy since its beginning.

For many years I felt as though she were

looking over my shoulder. As long as she was

alive, my mom and I sent each other Cathy cartoons.

My favorite? It was still on my mom’s fridge when

she died: Mom is in Cathy’s kitchen and picks up a

can of coffee. She asks what the first rule of shopping

at convenience stores is? (Meaning: don’t shop there at all.)

Cathy answers, “Always remember to peel off the little price

    sticker before Mom comes over?”

The favorite from my fridge? Cathy and Irving are cooking in

Cathy’s kitchen when Cathy notices Irving is throwing out the bean

cooking water as he drains the beans. “ACK! Irving! You’re throwing

away the bean water!……………. “Oh no! It’s official! I’ve become my

mother!” That one arrived with a matching mug.

Cathy, I wish you the very best.

    Kathy

cstenod40 – I’m with you and all the others who are going to desperately miss this strip. I quit taking my newspaper when they stopped running the strip. It is truly my favorite strip of all time and I really hope CG does as I have done – failed retirement – and comes back to do what she has so expertly done for 34 years.

BTW – Does anyone have any idea where I might replace my mug (recently accidently broken) of Cathy with her teddy bear saying “Stand by your bear.” Would love to find another one.

I have been reading Cathy since the strip began. My name is Cathy, I even think the cartoon looks like me. It made me smile when I read all of the things she would go through from the dieting to the shopping experiences. I will miss seeing myself in the comics.
