The sports tail has been wagging the university dog for decades, but now things are so crazy they make the Joker look reasonable. By the way, I think Ken Starr needs to go to prison as fast as his tiny little feet can carry him……
Baylor is simply emblematic of way too many colleges and universities where sports is the revenue generator, the cash cow that becomes the sacred cow – superseding academics – coddled and all bad behavior condoned, and covered up, for the sake of the income, and at the expense of the innocent victims.
I remember a university with a denomination in its name which violated some recruiting rules and used bribery to cover it up. It had its whole football program destroyed for several years. But that was in the past. Now a “religious” university covers up felonies and except for some PR firings (which may be temporary) and celebrity demotions (but not fired), nothing is done, and the felon athletes continue their sheltered way. Stop saying “God bless America” and start trying to make America worthy of God’s blessing.
For a Just and Peaceful WorldI am so old that I can remember when they abolished their football program and used the under-the-stands space of the stadium for scientific experimentation – like the first sustained nuclear fission reaction.

Or maybe about many schools, both named and unnamed. All of them covered under the name Enormous State University.

Replace “Baylor” with “Florida State” and remember the Jameis Winston episode. All that much different?

I no longer follow any sport other than NL baseball. And that will cease if they push the designated hitter onto the National League.
