Veg gardening is a skill more of us need to develop. Not so much because of the ‘end of the world’ scenarios that I keep hearing here in Florida, but just because it’s a lot healthier to know where your food comes from…

When I had a garden it was the only place I was truly happy. So busy now I had to sacrifice that joy.

Rose never had to get out in 95-degree heat and pick several 50-foot-long rows of green beans (or peas or corn). She’d feel a bit differently about what “fun” gardening is if she had.

we had fields of tomatoes back-in-the-day and it was fun picking some of them for the roadside stand and selling to the local grocery. pants got green from the vines and the smell was everywhere… gramp’s garden was much more diverse, but it wasn’t a cash crop like dad’s

That wasn’t the way Mom made me feel.

I have a garden but only have tomatoes and cucumbers. I do them in huge pots so watering is a lot easier. We don’t eat enough green beans and squash to make it worthwhile to plant any. I get those from the local farmers. Same with corn.

When I look at plants they pick up their roots and run away screaming in terror. I leave the gardening to my husband.
