Frazz by Jef Mallett for July 29, 2016
Transcript:
Caulfield: What do you do for a bad mood? Frazz: A long solo run, of course. Caulfield: That cures it? Frazz: Always. Except when it doesn't. Caulfield: And then at least you're not where you can ruin anyone else's day. Frazz: It's therapy until it's quarantine.

Maybe Caulfield has some kind of family issue? I hope not.

I think you are right, he has always cared, although sometimes he has a funny way of showing it.
To quote Jessica Rabbit, ’He’s not bad, he’s just drawn that way.’

@Richard S Russell: Caulfield’s father is finishing—or has finished a doctorate in pharmacology; his mother is a civil engineer; and they have a French poodle. There’s a bit more information in some of the earlier strips, too; I just don’t remember precisely.

I can really agree with Frazz on this one today. Even though I am not a long distance runner like Frazz, I have been pushing myself in the last year to “run” (jog, really) 3 miles a day. I too, have found for me that the hard physical activity helps me to feel more “even keeled”. If I am in a sad or angry mood, it will help a fair amount of that emotion dissipate. I have felt more centered, more focused, and less sad, frustrated, and angry. The reality is that I think for must of us, some form of hard, physical excretion can help in modulating moods and emotions. It can be of any sort people may enjoy.

I don’t run but I do walk at least five miles a day. Contrary to popular belief, after a five mile walk at an 18 minute per mile pace, I do get an endorphin rush.
And for those who will say that isn’t very fast, bite me. I suffered from undiagnosed cervical spinal trauma for most of my life. I’m lucky to be walking at all. My neurosurgeon thinks I am a walking miracle.

Kinda hard walking with a cane let alone trying to run.

&@ rekamOur local Y has an indoor therapy pool that’s wonderful for those with limited motility. The instructor of the arthritis class insists that walking in water helps balance, and yes, out of the water she uses a cane..Me, I’m there b/c of my hands and shoulders, so I can’t speak to that, but I do know that if I miss a week I’m more likely to seize up — which does put me in a pretty bad mood.
