Lynn’s Notes:Years later, after a divorce, remarriage and a move to North Bay, Ontario, I was ready to do my civic duty by fundraising for the local Arts Centre. This meant volunteering to work the bingo games. I learned a lot about bingo as I ran down the aisles selling dabbers, candy, and cards.
In Ecuador, Bingo is still very popular but not in the venues like up north. Here, bingo is a neighborhood, Sunday afternoon affair, played in someone’s front yard or patio with modest prizes and refreshments. That doesn’t mean that the players aren’t as fanatic – they are ! And superstitious. They bring their little lucky charms or mascots and use their lucky dabbers, just like their counterparts in Canada and the States. While there’s some small monetary prizes, most of the winners receive “regifted” items donated to or scrounged up by the host. The size of the prize doesn’t matter. It’s the competition and interaction ( and of course neighborhood gossip ) that makes it fun.
Gosh, but Lyyn drew the bingo lady kind of rough looking today. And, smoking is banned in most bingo halls now. Makes for a healthier environment and a more enjoyable game for many. There usually is a designated area for smokers, even if it’s outside the place. So, you just will have to give up a game round or two when you need to.
I’m not hooked, too many people smoking in there!they had to close our Hancock Fabric Store, because the Bingo Parlor next door made all the fabric smell like smoke.
when I was little, about 4yrs old to 10 years old, I’d spend one night a w/e with my Gram, it was Bingo night. I thought it was so cool, had my own cards, my cherry coke, and looking back one night a week of major 2nd hand smoke

She’s entering a dark underground world there. Like the Hotel California it is.

Going to bingo in Ecuador sounds like more fun than up here.

I’m surprised Lynn (or her editors) didn’t erase the cigarette. Similar non-PC panels (spanking, lack of seat belts in cars etc.) have been “updated.”

And that’s even before the Beginner’s Luck kicks in.
