Drabble by Kevin Fagan for September 25, 2016
Transcript:
Norman: Dad said that when he was a kid, Vin Scully's voice could be heard throughout the stadium because so many people brought their transistor radios! Even though they were watching the game in person, everyone still wanted to hear Vin's description! June: That's true! Norman: It's trickier to hear him at the stadium now because no one has transistor radios anymore. June: By the way, where is your dad? He's been gone for three innings! Norman: I might have an idea! Voila! TV: Did I ever tell you about the time Jackie Robinson and I raced on ice skates? Guy: Can someone hand me a paper towel, please?

Vin Scully is one of the greatest. (I’m using the present tense because he’s not dead.)And another great is playing his last game in Tampa Bay today — the Red Sox’ David Ortiz, affectionately known as “Big Papi”. I wonder if there’ll be a tribute to him today, as well.

Mix honey and maple syrup, you get Vin’s unforgettable voice. I’ll miss his broadcasts so much. ESPN’s three announcers, on the other hand….

Thank you Kevin, for the tribute to the VOICE of baseball. He is a wordsmith, a verbal artist of incredible dexterity, and he will be missed. However, Vin has said, in his own humble way, that it is the Game that is paramount — and the Game will go on. I know also, that he will start today’s broadcast with the perfect words to help us all with the unfathomable loss of Jose Fernandez. May you Rest In Peace.
BTW — At Dodger Stadium, they do have Scully’s audio in the restrooms, but there is no video…

Scully has contributed more good to American culture than all of Hollywood combined.
