Frazz by Jef Mallett for August 27, 2016
Transcript:
Caulfield: Someday I'm going to be a movie producer and make history. I'm going to make a superhero movie and its sequel in the same summer. Frazz: You'll have to make the first one good enough that the public doesn't need two years to forget the disappointment. Caulfield: What did you think I meant about making history?

I don’t think anybody sets out to make a bad movie. But an awful lot of them get made.

Peter Jackson already did that with the Lord Of The Rings trilogy. One of the few prequels and sequels that weren’t disappointing.

For WildBill re: His post of yesterday. Congrats, Pal! You won the “Book By It’s Cover” award as in don’t judge one in such a way. Manual laborers have nothing of value to say? What qif the janitor is a millionaire songwriter who takes a menial job he doesn’t need because it fulfills him and also maintains an exemplary life style – sorry, BigPuma – and is self taught but very well read, worldly, and maintains a high level of personal fitness? Might then this janitor be a good influence in children he sincerely cares about in a completely wholesome way? Whaddaya think, Billy?Read up on the strip’s background maybe, too. Good talk, Babe.V

LOTR wasn’t a superhero movie, though, so doesn’t qualify. The matrix could be a superhero movie of sorts (he does his ‘superman thing’), but the sequels really did suck.

It was done in 1973, but the cast didn’t know until the sequel was released. “The three musketeers.” The director shot enough scenes out of order to make two movies.

The Three Musketeers was shot like that (the 1973? version with Micheal York and Raquel Welch) and so was Superman and Superman II as was LOTR and The Hobbit. But points for thinking you would be the first. 10 points to Gryffindor. Oh yea, Harry Potter 6, 7a and 7b.
