I started to x the days off the calendar 5 years prior to retirement. You end up wishing your life away too fast.

Is that the general idea? Not everyone can be Veeblefester.

And speaking of him…I still say someone with bags of money sitting around his desk should have a fancier desk and chair!

I OTOH was forced into retirement when I was 48. 66 now and there are not enough hours in the day to do what I want.I totally love being retired(and a year after being forced into retirement my former boss suddenly discovered that no one knew how to do what I had been doing, so he wanted me to come back as a “consultant” and train a few people. When I was retired I was doing the work of 4 people, I very politely turned him down, then laughed like crazy after he hung up-that boss had been trying to get rid of me for a few years. Yet I got along great with other bosses-about 3 years after that friends who still worked there told me that boss had been fired, because after he “retired” me his productivity went way way down).

I would not say there is a correlation, but after my “early” retirement, their stock started to drop and did so for several months.
