Lupin: Elvis has been in a stand off with the man's feet for 45 minutes. Elvis: Every time I get comfortable he moves them. It's maddening. Puck: Elvis, when sleeping on the People, just relax... When they roll over, don't fight it... Just ride the tide. Elvis: Puck, it's not like- That's it- Man: Ow! Ow! Your cat is insane! Woman: Mmm...

The general rule is that when a cat is sleeping on you, you are not allowed to move until the cats wants you to move. If you are asleep, and the cat is lying across you, you are allowed to roll over a bit. The cat will then move to a position where it is leaning against you. Next time you move, you will automatically roll away from the cat. The cat will then move to lean against you again. In this way, it will ease you to the edge of the bed, and you will suddenly wake up to find you are falling out on one side, your wife is falling out on the other side, and the cat is sprawled across the middle. Guess how I know this?

When they do something bad, they’re her cats.

I had a cat that didn’t like me to move in bed if she was sleeping close to me. She was a wonderful cat and I miss her. Her name was Hepsebah. She was magical.

Yang once tried to grab my leg when I turned over during the night. He was literally kicked out of bed.

When Puck says “Ride the tide” I picture him on a surfboard.

One of my cats started taking over the bed one night. He was sprawled crosswise, so I shifted him over lengthwise. He woke up, gave me the stink eye, and jumped down.My other cat slept at the foot of my bed, but I got used to having my feet at the edge, we were both happy.

This one seriously made me laugh so hard. Because if you replaced Elvis with my Pywacket, this is bedtime in my house.

I believe I told this story the last time this particular strip ran, but any cat who tries what Elvis does with my dad, and they’re liable to not only get kicked off the bed, but also get knocked into the bedroom wall in the process. Cats in my folks house learn pretty quick, then, to leave my dad and his feet/legs alone while he’s in bed, asleep.

Casper wants to be on my legs. Puddin’ Pop has to be right next to me, like glue. And, she’s a big girl who is hot and heavy. I didn’t feed her too much, she came to me as a very fat foster cat who went on a diet the first day. Moose wants to be across my chest when I’m in the recliner with the laptop. It’s hard to see over his big old head. Scooter only wants me if my husband is unavailable.
Georgia certainly knows how cats work!

Current kitty likes to sleep on my left arm if I’m on that side or on my back, or up against my back when I’m on my right side. When I want to roll back, I just take up the tension on the covers and I can slide back under her. This morning, I kept my left arm out, she sat up and started licking my bicep! Previous kitty liked to sleep on my foot – suddenly 10 lbs became 50 lbs!

How an 11 lb. cat can push an XL woman and a 5XL man out of the bed is a mystery for the ages. At least Jingle Belle doesn’t bite us when we move—she just protests vocally.

With our cats, Missy rides the tide, Piper attacks my feet, Toby keeps to the high corner by my shoulder, and Suzy sleeps on my wife’s robe on the wing-back chair.

Just noticed the owl-shaped lamp next to the bed. A bit of forshadowing?
