Three words:Public domain images.Given a choice between someone who could produce professional art or someone who could compile the content for the booklet, which would you choose?(And that “near future” has not yet arrived in many places.)

Anything racially charged these days is risky. I’m a little concerned for Teresa now. I sort of wish she’d stuck with another day of cucumelons.

I’m embarrassed for never hearing about The Green Book. It was never mentioned in any of my history books.

If they suspended publishing the book, it’s probably because their website gets more hits.

I wonder if I treat black traveler’s the right way? This book would teach what the norm is.

I lived through that period and was old enough to see and understand. I recall, for example, racially separate water fountains in a small-town bus station. I remember having exactly one “Negro” (the PC term in those days) student in a high school of some 1200.I do not recall ever seeing the Green Book, though I think I was aware that there was some sort of guide for traveling persons of color. I heard, including from older relatives, open expressions of racial hostility.I do not expect perfection in this world, ever. But in this country things have improved over these past sixty years; i.e., roughly two generations. Let us not backslide.

IMHO the art Teresa inset on the lower left is clip art, but the cover art is not clip art. I know the clip art look very well, and the black line art with the green color overlay is not clip art.

Victor Green didn’t live to see that day: he died in 1960 and his widow Alma edited the book until it was folded in 1966. I’m glad I learned about this today; thank you, Teresa.

!957: A white friend went with me and my family to visit and stay a week at my grandparent’s farm. To get back we had to take the train (Santa Fe). They had a reserved seat system in which whites were always seated with other whites and blacks were always seated with other blacks. The ticket people had a problem with two boys of different races traveling together. They compromised by seating us both in the men’s rest room lounge.

Because $1.00 in 1956 has the same buying power as $8.83 in 2016, this must have been seen as invaluable information to exchange it’s price for the 22 cents per gallon of gasoline that would keep you on the road.

DO NOT GO TO the listed tinyurl.com address. I tried and got a message from AVAST that it blocked an attempt to download malware.

Sainthood is over-rated.A nice steak, a baked potato and a small salad is better.Nobody ever has to know what good one does. It’s better if they don’t think that somebody else or some government bureau of goodness is taking care of things that should be their concern.Remember what the dormouse said.Jacob Marley: They seek to interfere for good in human matters, and have lost their power forever.-Charles Dickens: A Christmas Carol
