Girl: Mrs. Olsen, what would you be if you weren't a teacher?
Mrs. Olsen: Three years, 10 months and 12 days older.
Caulfield: That was suspiciously quick.
Frazz: Oh, like it's a great big secret that she's looking forward to retirement.
Before I retired from my career as an educator I had a countdown calendar on which I crossed off the days towards retirement. I feel your pain, Mrs. Olsen.

My father had been an elementary school principal for many years but decided to go back into the classroom. He found teaching had changed much for the worse since he had been a teacher many years before and he quickly burned out and retired. I had originally thought to be a teacher myself but when I found myself in a classroom trying to divide my attention between thirty plus children, I quickly realized it was not the career for me. My career since college has been various office jobs. If I could go back in time to when I was 18, I would go for a degree in library sciences. I love books!
Was at a āCelebration of Lifeā yesterday (she made it to 102!) Lots of us old fogeys in attendance. The unanimous decision ā retiring was the best thing we ever did!

I donāt get it. Does she refer to her education time as a teacher? Then she would be about four years younger.

The problem with retirement, is that you generally have to be old to do it.ā
The way I see it, we should have been able to retire in our 20ās, and then go to work at 60.

Terror is not the same as manners. (I worked my way through Methodist seminary teaching square dancing at a black parochial high school.)
