Goat: If you could live for a thousand years, would you? Rat: Do my friends and family get to live the thousand years with me? Goat: It's touching that you care. Rat: Of course I care. I'm not living a thousand years with my family. Goat: That's less touching. Rat: I can't take a thousand more Christmas dinners.

Rat, if you’re lucky you might drop dead before Thanksgiving.

A thousand years? That’s the lifespan of a Twinkie!

Yeah, I can think of a few people whom I wouldn’t mind outliving by about a thousand years!

My Great-Grandmother made it to 103 out living her spouse and all her children. Way back when I was very young, I used to wish that she would live to be a thousand. Living to be 100 was sort of a given in my mind as she had her 85th birthday the day that I was born (sort of a birthday gift from her grand-daughter).

I notice it’s only his family that has him worried. He says nothing about not wanting to live a thousand years if his friends get to live that long too after asking about them in the first panel. Surprised he’d be willing to live a thousand years with them. Not surprised he doesn’t want to live a thousand years if his family gets to live that long.

I wouldn’t want to live that long either. I don’t want to see how screwed up the world is in another thousand years

If Abraham Lincoln were alive today, would he be leading this country to greatness…or scratching at the top of his coffin?

I don’t relish the idea of working another 900 years or so until retirement.

Why bother – Stephen Hawking says we won’t survive another 1000 years on this planet.

Ideas like this are very interesting. People love to speculate and fantasize about such things, but when you try to suggest it might be a reality you get scoffed at. For example, the Bible talks about people living nearly that long and also that people will live that long and longer in the near future. uh-oh…end of conversation, right? There’s a nut-job here.
But then again, people fantasize about aliens and flock to the latest sci-fi movies & books. But if someone claims they may have found evidence of intelligent life apart from this planet, they are labeled a wacko.

My Grandmother lived to 102, and lived in three centuries. Born in 1899, died in 2002. Imagine the changes she witnesses.
I’d take the thousand years. I think it would be great to live that long.

I’m trying to imagine planet Earth 1,000 years from now. People will probably be able to take vacations on Mars and get there very fast. Earth might be like a paradise. Or maybe our species will go extinct because of never ending wars.

we might be lucky to survive the next 4 years.

I don’t wish to live to be 100 never mind 1000!
In this screwed up world? Thanks but no thanks.

One of the best strips I’ve read. Hits pretty close to home.

I’d take the 1000 years, but only on Rat’s terms. It would be hellacious to have to endure certain family and friends for all that time!

the neighbor’s mother lived to be 107 and she was a great-great grandmother!BTW there’s a wish in hebrew, live to be 120 (like Abraham became 120 and enjoyed life to the last moment).
