Way to talk your way out of going to a party.

My husband & I have only ever spent one New Year’s Eve out; it was at a friend’s house. Our latest tradition (started last year) was for us to get “finger foods” instead of dinner and the 4 of us have a “pajama party”. We watch movies, nosh, & have fun, then watch the ball drop with a sparkling white grape toast.

Amatuer night.

Best staying inside here. Supposed to get 2+ inches of rain to ring in the new Trump year(s) . . .8, I hope . .??

We will attend a church pot-luck at 6 PM, not exactly a midnight welcome in the new year type of party. We live about a mile away from a small casino and have spent the midnight hour there a few times. I’m not sure whether we will do so again this year. It’s a very easy drive home on relatively quiet streets.

Is New Year’s Day even a holiday anymore? The last time I was out on January 1st it looked like any other weekday with stores and everything being open.

Not that I ever made a big deal of it. To me it always marked the end of the holidays. I hang up a new calendar and count the months until the next holiday season.

We stay home. Too many drunken nuts out there who have guns and think a great way to celebrate is by firing them up in the air. (It makes a nice little “bang” — like a firecracker.) Every year a bullet comes down somewhere a few blocks from the shooter, and hurts/kills an innocent bystander. Not to mention the drunken nuts who decide to drive home afterwards.

Besides,New Years eve falls on a Saturday this year,hockey night in Canada,right John?

For once I agree with John. Especially at this time of year when it’s cold and snowy out, it’s so much more comfortable to just stay home instead of getting dressed and going out in the cold, driving somewhere in a cold vehicle (that warms up just as you get there), having to socialize for several hours, then go back out to a cold car and home. Better to stay home in your nightgown watching movies with hot chocolate and snackies.

for 28.5 years I worked Christmas day-Triple time, New years-Double time and every other holiday-also double time Usually worked enough overtime to double my regular salary. Altho one entire year, just before I retired, I worked 12 hours a day,(over 8 hrs in a day, time and a half 10 hrs in a day=double time, working days off was time and a half for 8 hrs, double time over that) 7 days a week. Made way to much money, most of wages made from Thanksgiving day thru Dec 31 went for taxes. Been retired for 18 years, there are never enough hours in the day to do everything I want to do

Referring to pshapley. Sounds like Houston but I’m sure it’s just a bad everywhere else in large metropolitan areas. When I was young back in the 1960s I always went out on New Years then I decided that it was just too dangerous!

We always stayed home, made popcorn and opened a bottle of champagne. Didn’t want to be driving that night. Still don’t go out after 8p.m. that night.

This is really sweet. But not cloyingly so, because they are real and have their issues.

It’s my dog’s second worst night of the year, only after July 4th. She thinks war has been declared and we’re just casually watching TV!

The comments on this strip today are so reassuring to me ! Sounds like there are many smart, mature people, who are using good sense in staying safe while enjoying the evening ! I bet those of you with children have really neat kids !! <3
