I’m borrowing my cousin’s 176-page “Captains Courageous” by Rudyard Kipling. Haven’t gotten back to yet for a few months since I’m on (according to my book mark) the sixth (of ten) chapter on page 89. The book is just on the side table of my sofa.

The only book in English Class I ever read was Catcher in the Rye. At that, the teacher was having us read it without administration approval. He would have gotten in trouble if they found out we were reading something interesting, I guess.

I still remember the smallest book I had to read in high school, just 91 pages, was one of the worst ever.

The only book I didn’t like reading for school was “Silas Marner”. Of course, I had books like “Catcher In the Rye”, “Ordinary People”, “The Outsiders”, “The Hobbit”…

I’m reading the “Gone” series, and they are some thick books!

I was reading well above my grade level. 3rd grade I was reading “We” the autobiography of Charles Lindbergh, then moved on to Hemingway stuff. I always loved “The Old man and the Sea.”

I was reading books by Asimov, Silverberg, Lovecraft along with comics in DC, Marvel and Gold Key. I found most of them more interesting than those offered.

I did a little light reading in high school: The Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire by Edward Gibbon.

Catcher in the Rye is a fine book. However, please do not use it as inspiration to shoot any of the Beatles. :P

In junior high I read an American classic, The Great Brain.
