you can see the strip on the 14th where the captain gives Toni and Brad a week off beginning on their wedding day. Toni has now begun work again, so we are somewhere after that week has passed.
.
Did they honeymoon on a trip or honeymoon hidden away in Toniâs apartment? I do not know, but since their shifts have restarted and since they were given a week, they HAVE had something of a honeymoon in one form or another.
I donât have a problem with the story. But some people are so in a hurry that if they arenât dazzled every other second they get bored. I work to retain that patience so lacking since the jump cut became common place. They ability to concentrate for long periods is a positive development. Not the short attention span of a gnat.
OK, folksâŠwe need to trust that Greg Evans will handle the TJ situation in his own way, and not just write him out like Richie Cunninghamâs older brother, or Bobby Ewing âIt was all a dreamâ. Knowing Mr. Evans, if/when TJ leaves, it will be funny, touching, and a little sadâand organic to the strip.
I didnât get that impression, but I also donât read the comments on a regular basis. So what if this theme is âbecoming a hardship?â Isnât the reason we read this strip to obtain a story, well told, as put forth by the author? You ever read the horrible mess that comes out of groupthink? Let the poor author alone, I seriously doubt theyâll lose fans for realizing their own vision.
My mother â in â law used to have some curtains that looked like that wallpaper. I used to call them her âheadache curtainsâ. If you looked at them too long, you got a headache.
Brad looks⊠disappointed? That Toni is leaving for work? When will they become adults who can talk through their expectations about their life together?? I guess that wouldnât be funny.
Folks, has anyone yet checked out the new âBetaâ version of the Go Comics site? I just did this morning. To be honest, Iâm having some issues with it.
.
Biggest concern is that itââs not obvious anymore how to make these comments. Can anyone say how to do that on a âfreeâ account, or do you now need a âProâ account to make comments? Also, the layout will take a little getting used to, I think.
.
This new website goes into effect on Monday (01/09). So check it out quickly, but keep this URL alive. In the event that we are no longer able to make comments, I would like to say that it was a pleasure to have interacted with all of you, especially @IamJayBlue, @BrdSht, @JPuzzleWhiz, and the many othersâŠ. even @Leviticus :).
JPW , do you get the timeline NOW? Please re-read Sukieâs post above. They had a week off ( courtesy the Captain) starting Dec 11, and now are getting back to work. SO THEY HAD A HONEYMOON!
It may not funny; however, for many itâs reality. Back in the 80s I got married and had the good luck to get stationed in Europe. After a few days to get settled in, it was back to work. If you have a job that requires you to work weekends and holidays, it can be tough. At least they have friends and family nearby.
OK, Brad and Toni work different shifts so they arenât often home at the same time. TJ proved himself to be a caring friend by planning their wedding and remodeling the house. Neither Brad or Toni likes to cook and TJ loves to cook. What the heck is the problem here? Are people dying to get back to the Les storyline? Now thereâs a character I would love to see go away and never come back.
Why in the âH E Double Toothpickâ would newlyweds even THINK of living there when they really need their privacy to really get acquainted. It ainât normal or natural I tell you!!
This panel sets up for âlife.â after all the celebration and preparation for the marriage of Brad and Toni. Most couples have to accommodate work schedules, and lets not even talk about what happens when children come into the picture. The twist for me is how TJ fits into that picture, and depending on the result what will happen with him as a character? Ought to be interesting, and given the Shannon issue, there might be an even sooner twist on that. Of course Toni could always be or become pregnant pretty soon. So we will see.
Letâs see: Thereâs blue star-amoeba wallpaper, taupe carpeting, a reddish-brown couch and a big throne chair seemingly blocking the archway to a yellow room. Blech. It just doesnât work.
When my wife and I were first married, I worked Monday through Friday. She worked Tuesday through Saturday. That left us one day a week together. After a little over a year, her days were changed to Monday through Friday like mine. As luck would have it, two weeks later, one of the other techs where I was working broke his leg and I was moved into his time slots. Any guesses? Tuesday through Saturday.
Poor Brad. Looks like the Evanses will keep him stuck in the Friendzone forever. Treasure those pecks on the cheek, Brad, because thatâs all youâll get from now on..It looks like itâs part of the overall portrayal of the DeGroots as feckless wimps. Anything that happens in the strip, gets done by someone outside the family.
If some readers think this strip is a hardship then I guess everyday life, which is what the strip portrays (for a diverse group of characters) is a bore for them. There canât be excitement and tension all the time. Greg is perhaps signaling that life for Toni and Brad, post-wedding , has now returned to some steady-state form. The plane has landed and is taxi-ing to its gate. I think next week we will revisit another scenario with other characters.
I donât know why people dislike TJ so much. I think he is good hearted and really competent at many things. His taste may not be your taste but whose is? As for the three of them living together thatâs a very modern and maybe not so good idea. Large families with unmarried aunts and uncles etc. used to live together. Young newly weds lived in the family home until they could afford to move out. They are certainly used to having TJ around and if he is going to do all the cooking that should make up for any small faults. He has a vivid imagination and will act on it, better in my opinion than staid and boring.
Not a hardship for me. Personally, I kind of LIKE TJ. Heck, he could move in with me any day. But, alas, people DO work, so unless Brad and Toni can manage the same shift, things like this will happen.
In this strip Brad comes across, glaringly, as a person with no outside interests, hobbies or creative pursuits; someone who cannot entertain himself, much less carry on an interesting conversation with the guy who has been his best friend since high school. Iâll give Brad a momentary break to allow the shock of normal life to descend on him. But thenâŠ. maybe HE will be the boring one.

so what shall the married man and the bachelor man do while the married lady goes to work?

That is REALLY bad wallpaper.
Flash Gordon about 8 years ago
That âwallpaperâ would be psychedelic if it was multicolored and this was the late 1960âs and early 1970âs.

This storyline is making me cringe.

TJ, move on, please, and donât return. Thank you.

Reminds me of the song:
âŠ
ââȘâŠ.A chair is still a chair, even when thereâs no one sittinâ there
But a chair is not a house and a house is not a home
When thereâs no one there to hold you tight
And no one there you can kiss goodnightâŠâȘ"
