Five bidders? Warbucks, Diet Smith, Octopus/Mr. Carrion, the mystery lady, so who is the fifth bidder? Bribery?
If Bribery is bidding, who is his proxy? Doubleup? There is a conflict of interest there for Doubleup regardless of Whether he is Bribery’s proxy or not. Unless Perenelle is Bribery’s stooge in the biggest scam of the century.

Maybe #5 is just the “redshirt” that’s needed for the murder mystery.
On another topic…I vaguely remember there was another character who was supposed to be important, but has been gone for a while…What was his name? Essence? Ghost? Spook? LOL
I sincerely doubt Perenelle can be fooled at her age. Interesting only five have come to bid. I would of expected a few others. Though some may just wait to see who gets it and take it from them. I can assume that Perenelle can make more so some may want to just take her instead. But I doubt she is easy to trap.
ME-TV is running an “Alfred Hitchcock Hour” episode right this second, guest-starring a very young Jessica Walter, specifically “The Ordeal of Mrs. Snow” from 1964.
If bidder #5 is Bribery, wouldn’t his rep most likely be “T-Bolt”? Or will Matty Squared bid electronically?
Now Warbucks and the Dragon Lady haven’t shown any signs of aging since the 1930s, Diet Smith since the 1950s, and Bribery since the 1960s (though we can’t tell about the Octopus). You’d think some of those guys from Gasoline Alley and Funky Winkerbean would be more interested . . . .
Apparently the 28th floor of the Siam is most favored by eccentric billionaires. It’s a treat to see Daddy Warbucks and Diet Smith making “small talk” on the eve (more or less) of the auction for the Immortality Elixir. But, like others before me here, I wonder who the remaining bidders might be. We don’t know that Hotshot Charlie’s passenger was the Dragon Lady, but that treacherous pirate queen is certainly possible; I’d accept Mr. Octopus (or his surrogate); but then there’s the fifth. What slightly tarnished person of wealth might show up at the last minute?
Maybe those so inclined should smoke a fine cigar and sip a single malt scotch while we all sit in the grand lobby of the Siam and wait….

Assuming the formula to be a hoax, suppose it is stolen en route to the high bidder once payment has been exchanged.
Not Perenelle’s fault.
Not Perenelle’s problem.
And no one the wiser for it.

Heck, Doubleup might even end up taking the fall.

Joe’s Warbucks has developed a “Jerry Ordway”-style vertical line along the side of his face, to more fully define facial structure.
Or to look more akin to the logo for The Harvey Awards.
Subliminal Advertising …?

Wonder how high the starting bid was.
In the tens or hundreds of millions …?

Would “The Dragon Lady” have enough in liquid funds to bid?

“So, what’cha up to these days, Oliver?”“Oh, just hanging around acting nonchalant in front of the competition. You, Diet?”“Oh, pretty much the same.”

Characters I’d like to see Dick Tracy team up with next year …
1.) Modesty Blaise
2.) The Phantom
3.) Nexus

Nexus hasn’t had much of a life beyond print media.
Not for lack of trying …
